A man travelling from Tanzania has been arrested at OR Tambo International Airport in a R12 million drug bust.
He was allegedly carrying the drug ephedrine, worth over R12 million, in his luggage.
Officials say when he was asked to put his luggage through the customs scanner, it revealed 10 clear plastic bags that contained a white crystal substance.
Customs officials arrested the 36-year-old suspect yesterday.
Sars spokesperson Sandile Memela says, “The man who claimed to be on a three-day visit to South Africa has since been handed over to the South African Police Service to face prosecution.”
