Liberian Football Legend George Weah to run for president again

Former world footballer of the year, George Weah will be running for president of Liberia this year. This will be the second time the African football legend will be running for president of his country when elections are held in October.

According to Africanews George Weah is hoping to Liberians will give him the chance this time round as he heads a coalition into the elections. The coalition has three parties including the Congress for Democratic Change party he founded.

Liberia’s female president, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf will be stepping down after serving two terms. Mr. Weah lost to the current president in 2005, the first time he run for president.

Mr Weah in 2011 also lost the elections to President Sirleaf when he run as a vice-presidential candidate on the ticket of Winston Tubman.

Speaking about his intentions to run for president, the African football legend in 2016 told Africanews that “I am telling Liberians to be hopeful and to keep hope alive. This is our time and we will do all we can this time around to win the elections to lead our people”.

Mr. Weah is currently serving as a senator of the northwestern region of Montserrado in Liberia.
