International Medical Corps UK is a global humanitarian organisation saving and rebuilding lives through health care, training and community development. IMC UK works along side IMC worldwide which over the past two decades, has responded to humanitarian emergencies and communities afflicted by conflict, poverty and natural disaster in more than 40 countries.

Scope of Work

Support and guide all activities undertaken by IMC UK s to develop and expand the capacity, effectiveness and quality of IMC UK programs. Increase IMC capacity in the field to design, secure funding and successfully implement humanitarian programs funded by European institutional donors. Represent IMC UK to donors and in international fora concerned with humanitarian affairs.

Responsibilities

1. Institutional relationship management:
  • Liaise and maintain good working relations with IMC worldwide with specific responsibility for relations with the IMC worldwide operations, finance, fundraising and human resource departments in the field and in the United States.
  • Maintain current knowledge and understanding of European and UK humanitarian and technical assistance policy agendas, debates and funding opportunities and disseminate to all appropriate parties.

2. Project Management:
  • Provide practical leadership and support to field and US offices in the design and implementation of European funded programmes, including proposal and report development, staff training and programme review.
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of European donor administrative and programmatic practices and disseminate to IMC field programs and regional desks.
  • In conjunction with IMC worldwide operations monitor and evaluate IMC UK field projects.
  • Monitor IMC UK grants implementation and ensure compliance with grant agreements. Work with country management teams and headquarters staff to ensure a high standard of reporting and evaluation.
  • Availability and willingness to travel up to approximately 35% of time, sometimes at short notice.
  • Manage a junior programme officer and build the capacity of a team of programme volunteers.
3. Programme Development:
  • Responsible for liaising between field offices, headquarters and donors to ensure IMC UK continues to expand its service provision to address humanitarian and development needs.
  • Assist and coordinate the preparation of proposal submissions to institutional donors and private foundations. This task requires knowledge of and involvement in proposal and budget preparation, review and editing.
  • Coordinate with country teams and donors the modification, extension and expansion of IMC UK grants.
  • Develop and implement IMC UK institutional funding strategy in line with IMC UK fundraising and organizational strategies.
  • Prepare and undertake presentations and solicitations on behalf of IMC UK to interested parties.
Requirements
  • Degree education or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years experience of working in the international humanitarian sector managing institutional donor relations.
  • Considerable experience of writing project proposals and reports to a high standard required
  • Experience of working overseas required, in emergency context highly desirable
  • As this post is UK based non-EC nationals will require current and valid permission to work in the UK

The role

Reporting to the Operations Manager you will work in a team of Regional Desk Officers and act as the point of contact to overseas staff in your designated programmes. You will work closely with programme staff to support the development of projects. You will provide fundraising, administrative and logistical support to existing projects including budget writing and monitoring. You will also research and write proposals for new initiatives and may be required to undertake programme support visits.

You will be an enthusiastic self-starter with experience of developing and supporting projects. Ideally, you will already have experience in an international NGO environment.

Department Description

Job Purpose

This includes helping to raise Alert’s profile among external audiences (including general public and media), providing programme teams with communication support on publications and communication strategies, supporting fundraising goals to diversify funding bases through new donor audiences, and supporting organisation-wide activities that contribute to a cohesive, integrated organisation.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. E-communications
- Lead on the production of the monthly e-bulletin with responsibility for liaising across the organisation to generate content ideas, write the content and ensure its timely distribution.
- Work closely with the Web Officer to keep the Alert website updated and inviting for new visitors, including ensuring that programme pages are updated 2 times a year.
- Work with the Web Officer on initiatives to promote and publicise the website, including registering with relevant directories, partner sites, etc.

2. Profile Raising and Media Relations
- Provide support for gaining press coverage in UK and international media, including the development of media materials.
- Maintain media archive of media coverage in the UK and internationally.
- Circulate organisational news to relevant newsletters and websites
- Support the development of events and other profile-raising activities, including support for speakers, logistics and a publicity campaign.

3. Programme & Publications Support
- Provide post-production support to programme publications, including sending copies of new publications to copyright libraries, trustees and donors.
- Respond to external requests for publications from the website and communications inbox, including invoicing, sending copies, logging distribution on database.
- Respond to external requests for copyright permission to use Alert publications.
- Provide ongoing support to programmes with communications-related needs: document lay-out, scanning, providing logos, etc.

4. Organisational Communications
- Manage the Communications Inbox, ensuring inquiries and requests are handled in a timely fashion.
- Help research and produce organisational materials, such as the Annual Review and Update Newsletter.
- Work with team members to organise, populate and maintain the image database.
