“The things you do for Everton, eh?”
The Scouse invasion of Tanzania has begun. Well, more a flying visit than an invasion, if truth be told.

Scores of intrepid Blues descended on Eastern Africa this week, eager for a first glimpse of Wayne Rooney and Ronald Koeman's new-look side.

Eager, too, for a box to tick off.
Everton fans are as dedicated and as passionate as any, but this trip is some commitment.

While Koeman, Rooney and co flew direct on a special charter from Liverpool on Tuesday evening, first class all the way of course, their supporters were forced to embark on a rather more taxing journey.

Some went via Dubai, others through Oman and Qatar. The more creative opted for a night or two in Zanzibar before heading for Dar es Salaam for Thursday's game.

Whatever the route, it was an expensive – and gruelling – one. A 12,000-mile round trip at best. For a friendly.

The things you do for Everton, eh?

Still, spirits were high as the ECHO set off 24 hours ago. A number of SportPesa jerseys were on display at Manchester airport - “better than work, isn't it?” remarked one as news of a 90-minute flight delay filtered through. Start as you mean to go on.

That delay meant a swifter than ideal turnaround for the connecting flight from Dubai, but the chatter among Blues was one of optimism. The club's summer transfer business has got fans excited, and the expectation is that there is much more to come too. Talk was of Olivier Giroud, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Christian Benteke – interesting prospects.

This trip offers a first look at Davy Klaassen and Michael Keane, £50m worth of new signings.

Wayne Rooney is world class, Everton will be fine without Romelu Lukaku - Yannick Bolasie

For the locals, though, there is no doubt who the main attraction is. Rooney was greeted by hordes of cheering supporters as the Everton squad arrived at its beachfront hotel on Wednesday morning.

From there, it was off to fulfil a series of media duties.

Keane, Tom Davies and Mo Besic headed off to meet members of Albino United Football Club , while Klaassen, Matty Pennington, Phil Jagielka and Dominic Calvert-Lewin embarked on a Tanzanian cooking challenge at the team hotel.

For their loyal followers, though, the adventure was barely beginning.

The five-hour connecting flight from Dubai was routine enough, but what awaited fans at Julius Nyrere International Airport was anything but.

A convoluted visa process led to lengthy, sweaty and frustrating delays crammed inside a tiny arrivals hall. Roberto Martinez defences have been better organised, if truth be told.

The moment when the overburdened immigration official held up YOUR passport and waved you through customs was one to cherish, though annoyingly the delay meant fans were denied the chance to watch Rooney and co in action at Everton's open training session at Tanzania's National Stadium.

Everton target Olivier Giroud casts doubt over his Arsenal future

Still, they weren't the only ones running late; a planned press conference with Koeman was shelved as the team were running behind schedule.

In any case, they'd arrived, and could now take in a bit of Dar es Salaam. First impressions? Heat. Heat and noise. Heat, noise and traffic.

With temperatures heading into the 30s, Thursday's game (a 5pm kick off local time) will be a sweaty one. Rooney, Klaassen and Keane will all feature, but don't expect any to do more than 45 minutes in these conditions.

And if you're heading to the game, make sure you give yourself plenty of time. Because the traffic in Dar es Salaam has to be seen to be believed.

The ECHO's 10km journey to the hotel from the airport took close to two hours, a snail-paced blur of packed buses, kamikaze motorcyclists and constant horn blowing. You thought the Scotty Road roadworks were bad? This is on a different level.

And the driver was wearing a Manchester United shirt. Guess whose name was on the back?

Everton U23s v Burscough cancelled

Thankfully, Everton will have the luxury of a police escort to ferry them to and from their meeting with Kenyan outfit Gor Mahia.

For the fans, though, it's about new experiences. Most the ECHO spoke to were staying out near the beach – and planning their evening around the 'George and the Dragon' pub – though some were located in the heart of the city, amid the hustle and the bustle.

One to enjoy, then, and one to remember. An ordeal at times, yes, but whatever else Everton's historic African trip throws up, it's already an experience

As if tupo miaka 100 nyuma na duniani.

Airport ndio first image ya Nchi yoyote..

Mtu kutoka nje anapoingia akishaona the way Airport operations are carried out anapata picha hii Nchi ni ya namna gani..

Tanzania ndio hivyo kuanzia airport pameoza.

Hapako sawa tuparekebishe.

Tatizi si uwanja wa ndege tu,tathmini mahali ulipo pakoje.
