Wajackoyah: We're Confident We'll Win Presidential Election
Roots Party has exuded confidence that its presidential candidate Prof. George Wajackoyah will clinch the presidency seat once the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) makes an official announcement on the same.
Despite preliminary results intimating that Kenya Kwanza frontman William Ruto and his Azimio counterpart Raila Odinga hold a significant lead over Wajackoyah and Agano party candidate David Mwaure, the party is still convinced that the pro-marijuana professor will be named Kenya's next president once vote totaling is completed.

David Mwaure concedes defeat in Presidential race
Agano Party Presidential candidate David Mwaure has conceded defeat in the Presidential race.
Mr Mwaure, in a statement on Sunday, admitted defeat saying that he has observed a low performance in the votes he has garnered so far as the vote verification is ongoing at the Bomas of Kenya.
The presidential candidate, therefore, endorsed his competitor William Ruto, claiming that he has taken a consistent lead in the vote numbers and that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) should announce him as president.
"I wish to concede defeat in the presidential elections if 2022 whose verification is ongoing at Bomas. This I am doing after seeing what my performance has been and after discussions with my team in Bomas," read part of the statement.
The Agano party leader further thanked his supporters for backing his bid during the polls further urging the IEBC to remain steadfast to ensure that the ongoing exercise is verifiable and seamless.
"I thank my family, secretariat, the campaign team and all those who voted and prayed for us," said Mwaure.
"I wish to call on IEBC to be firm, steadfast and resolute on its task and mandate and announce the leading winner of the presidential election."
Mwaure's bowing out leaves three candidates in the ring who are eyeing the country's top seat.
The are Azimio la Umoja's Raila Odinga, Kenya Kwanza's William Ruto and George Wajackoyah of Roots party.

William Ruto Congratulates Election Winners
Kenya Kwanza Alliance presidential candidate William Ruto has sent a congratulatory message to the coalition's aspirants who secured seats in Tuesday’s General Election.
Through his Twitter handle on Saturday, the Deputy President specially lauded the female leaders who have been elected in various capacities across the country, saying they had broken barriers.
“Congratulations to all election winners. In particular, we celebrate the many women who have broken barriers to climb the political ladder,” said Dr. Ruto.
He further wished them success in their roles, telling them: “Best wishes as you embark on your new responsibilities. Hustlers are counting on you.”

Rigging claim jolts vote count as poll team races against time
Claims of ballot stuffing and other rigging claims jolted the ongoing count of the presidential vote as attention shifted to Bomas of Kenya, the national tallying centre.
Azimio la Umoja One Kenya yesterday alleged more voters cast votes in the presidential race than any of the other five races in the Mt Kenya region, terming it an indicator of election fraud.
The coalition said the alleged rigging was most rampant in Central Kenya, a region that overwhelmingly voted for United Democratic Alliance (UDA) presidential candidate William Ruto.

IEBC Returning Officer Goes Missing
Embakasi East Constituency Returning Officer Daniel Musyoka has been officially reported missing following his disappearance on Thursday, August 11.
In a media briefing on Friday at the Bomas of Kenya, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati said the elections official was last seen at the East African School of Aviation tallying centre where he had been escorted by his bodyguard.
However, while at the tallying centre, Mr. Musyoka is reported to have excused himself to make a phone call but did not return to his workstation.

‘We’re Not Even Halfway’: IEBC Hopes To Finish Verifying Presidential Results By Tomorrow
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) now says it hopes to finish verifying the much-anticipated presidential election results by Saturday morning.
This is according IEBC Vice Chairperson Juliana Cherera, who now says Returning Officers of all the 290 constituencies have since arrived at the Bomas of Kenya which is serving as the commission's national tallying center.
Ms. Cherera, speaking in an address at Bomas on Friday night, however noted that the agents overseeing the process are not even halfway done with the verification yet, hence urging them to fasten their efforts.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has moved to allay fears its systems can be compromised following disinformation spreading on social media about the fallibility of its voting technology.
In a Friday afternoon press briefing, CEO Marjan Hussein Marjan said: "There is disinformation spreading that the results portal has been compromised. We would like to assure the country that nothing like that has happened. We anticipated that people will try to hack our systems and put in place measures to secure it on all levels."

IEBC Official Arrested with Several Unmarked Ballot Papers in Starehe
A Presiding Officer from one of the polling stations in Starehe Constituency has been whisked away by police from angry youth at the Jamhuri tallying center.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) official was allegedly found with an unmarked booklet of election papers in his bag while gaining access to the centre that was heavily guarded by GSU officers.
Confirming the incident, Central Police Station boss Fred Abuga said officers had to rescue the Presiding Officer from the wrath of supporters of one of the candidates in the Starehe Parliamentary race who were baying for his blood.

MP Didmus Barasa Seeks Bail Pending Arrest As Manhunt Continues
Lawyers representing Kimilili MP-elect Didmus Barasa have filed a petition seeking to compel the court to grant the embattled legislator bail pending his arrest.
In a letter dated August 11, 2022, Khaminwa and Khaminwa Advocates informed the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Inspector General (IG) of Police Hillary Mutyambai of the said development.
"Take notice today that Khaminwa and Khaminwa Advocates have filed an application on behalf of Hon. Didmus Barasa for bail pending arrest. As soon as the application is heard and appropriate orders are made you will be advised accordingly by the said law firm," the letter signed by lawyer John M. Khaminwa reads in part.

Kenya's elections chief has warned the media not to announce the winner of the presidential poll before his own organisation does."Please don't declare anybody the winner, it is our job to declare who is the winner," IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati said on Thursday.
"This is a transparent process, you can log in and verify what's there," he said, referring to the IEBC's website
"The results in the public portal are the same results that the [electoral] commission will use to complete this process," he added.

Forms 34A: Only 63 Polling Stations Yet To Submit As IEBC Sees Finish LineThe Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has confirmed that they have received 99.84% of Forms 34A as at 12:30pm Thursday.
IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati, while giving the commissions' status update, explained the number means that a total of 46,156 polling stations have submitted their forms from 46,229.
He assured that the process is still ongoing and a report on their progress shall be given to the public by end of the day.
On the question of if the polling stations that voted manually managed to submit their forms through the digital platform, KEIMS kit, Chebukati noted that the commission has been furnished by all results from the regions apart from two constituencies.

EAC Observer Mission Says Kenyan Polls Were Credible Despite Misinformation On Social Media
The East African Community (EAC) team which is in the country to observe the General Election has described the Tuesday exercise as credible, save for social media misinformation.
Led by former Tanzania President Jakaya Kikwete, the EAC Observer Mission on Thursday said its 52 observers deployed across the country had assessed the exercise from campaigns, delivering of polling materials, voting, up to results management at polling stations.
“Campaigns were conducted in a calm and peaceful atmosphere. Parties and candidates had the opportunity to campaign freely, although there were reports of some challenges and incidents encountered by some parties and some members, they do not reflect the whole election process,” Mr. Kikwete said.
The former Tanzanian leader who was presenting the preliminary report of the EAC Observer Mission pointed out disinformation, misinformation and hate speech on social media as some of the major challenges recorded during the election period.
He commended faith-based and civil society organisations, as well as the media in promoting peace ahead and during the polls.

Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o has congratulated her father on winning a second and final term as governor of Kenya's Kisumu county.
Her father, Anyang Nyong'o, was announced winner on Wednesday following Kenya's general elections on Tuesday.
The Oscar-winning actor was raised in Kenya, before moving to the United States.
Nyong'o, who won a best supporting actress Oscar for 12 Years a Slave, thanked the people of Kisumu for "their overwhelming support" to her father at the polls.

Raila Odinga beats William Ruto in Rwanda diaspora vote
Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga casts his ballot at Old Kibra polling station in Nairobi on August 9, 2022.
The Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga has garnered more votes in Kigali, Rwanda polling station.
Form 34A seen by Nairobi news shows that Mr 0dinga gained 150 votes, representing 62.7 percent of the total votes cast.
William Ruto of UDA comes second with 81 votes, while both the Roots Party candidate Professor George Wajackoyah and the Agano party flag bearer Waihiga David Mwaure gained 4 votes each.
Only 239 voters turned out from the total 545 registered by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

CS George Magoha Changes School Reopening Date
Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha announced that schools would be reopened on Monday, August 15, 2022.
In a statement on Wednesday, August 10, Magoha urged parents to ignore any prior communications that indicated schools would be reopened on August 11.
The CS stated that after consultations with the IEBC, they have been informed that the tallying exercise would last for a few days and ballots would still be moved from learning institutions that were used as polling stations.

2333HrsBungoma County Commissioner Samuel Kimiti has now urged embattled Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa to surrender before the police following an incident where he allegedly shot and killed his opponent’s bodyguard.
Mr. Kimiti, speaking to Citizen TV on Tuesday night, said the MP had gone into hiding soon after the incident, further urging him to also surrender his firearm.
The County Commissioner seemingly intimated to the legislator to avoid the drama that would surround his arrest should the police nab him after presumably subjecting them to a cat-and-mouse game.
The County Commissioner also urged Bungoma residents to aid the police with any information leading to Barasa’s arrest, however cautioning them against taking action on their own.

IEBC Commissioner Francis Wanderi: At around 4 pm 12,065,803 out of 22,120,458 registered voters had cast their votes. This equates to 56.17 per cent of voter turnout excluding voting through the manual register.
The figures could point out to a historically low voter turnout. In 2017 the final turnout was 78 per cent for the General Election while in 2013, the turnout was 86 per cent. The 2007 poll had 68 per cent of the registered voters casting their ballots.

Nakuru East MP David Gikaria Arrested
Nakuru East Member of Parliament David Gikaria has been arrested. According to Nakuru Police Commander Peter Mwanzo, the MP was arrested following an altercation at a polling station within the county.
He is being detained at the Central Police Station.
Gikaria, the incumbent MP is defending his seat on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket in a race that has attracted four contenders.
Former Nakuru Town MP David Manyara, former Nakuru Mayor Benson Mwangi, county assembly speaker Joel Kairu, and Kanu women league coordinator Grace Karuga are among those seeking an electoral mandate to unseat the MP.

Roots Party presidential candidate Prof. George Wajackoyah was not able to cast his vote at Matungu in Kakamega County after the IEBC KIEMS kit failed.
Prof. Wajackoyah turned up at the Indangalasia Primary School at around a quarter past 10 am.
No one in the polling station had cast their vote yet at the time. “We are waiting to see what happens, like they have said. They said they would give us another 11 hours and asked us to be patient,” he told voters outside the polling station.

While polling stations have opened peacefully in most parts of north-eastern Kenya, there are reports of raids and voter intimidation in some areas by al-Shabab Islamist militants. Locals along that stretch of border are refusing to talk to the media, fearing repercussions both from the jihadists and government security personnel who like to downplay militant activities, especially during an election.
In Qarsa village, residents - who spoke to the BBC on condition of anonymity - described how militants had ordered passengers onboard a truck ferrying voters to disembark and later set it on fire. They say the insurgents have been issuing warnings to locals not to take part in the election.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has suspended Parliamentary elections for Rongai Constituency in Nakuru County after a mix-up in the ballot papers.
Nakuru County IEBC manager Joseph Mele on Tuesday morning confirmed the suspension.
At the Mercy Njeri Primary school polling station, there were missing ballot boxes and papers for the MP seat. Youth took to the streets to protest the suspension, barricading roads and burning tyres.

Uhuru’s Message to Kenyans After Voting
President Uhuru Kenyatta has expressed confidence in the electoral process after casting his vote in Gatundu South constituency, Kiambu county.
Speaking to the media after voting on Tuesday, August 9, the President stated that the process was smooth, urging Kenyans to turn up in large numbers and vote.
He also added that Kenyans should give the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) time and space to tally and announce the results.
"It is every Kenyans hope that this election will be free and fair. The process was smooth. I wasn't there for too long and the systems seemed to be working, so we just hope it continues like that for the rest of the day.
"This is a day of voting and we pray that Kenyans turn out to vote in peace and go back home to await for the results," Uhuru stated.
Uhuru arrived minutes after First Lady Margaret Kenyatta cast her vote. The Head of State is among key leaders and government officials who have already cast their vote.

Voting kit fails to identify presidential running mate
Presidential running mate Rigathi Gachagua was forced to wait longer before casting his ballot after a biometric voter-identification kit couldn't recognise him.The kits identify voters through their finger prints before they are allowed to vote.
Several attempts by Mr Gachagua - including rubbing his fingers through his hair - for his fingerprints to be recognised failed to succeed. He was however allowed to cast his ballot after being identified through the backup printed voter register.

As voting has got under way elsewhere in Kenya, some delays are being witnessed in some parts of Mombasa county on the coast. Some voters who arrived before polls were due to open three hours ago at 06:00 (3:00 GMT) are still waiting in queues.
Many arrived well before dawn, wanting to vote early. Residents from Mvita area of Mombasa city have been particularly concerned and told me of their frustration at the delay. Many have been looking at their phones to try and find out the latest information about the delays - as there were no explanations given.
But electoral officials there have just received the voting material - so the hope is that the queues will start moving soon. Voting was also slow to start at another centre in the city with gates opening half an hour late.

Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary candidate, Hamisi Butichi, has been arrested in Ikolomani Constituency after he was caught with crude weapons at a polling station.
Butichi, who is seeking the parliamentary seat under the party associated with Deputy President William Ruto, was arrested in possession of machetes and other materials that are not supposed to be in his possession at a polling station on voting day.
Kakamega Central OCPD, Valerian Obure noted that he was held for questioning.

The polls opened at 6.am on Tuesday in Kenya as the country gears up to elect its fifth president.
The nation's 22,120,458 registered voters will go to the polls this year to elect their next president, in a tussle that has attracted four eccentric contenders: George Wajackoyah of the Roots Party, David Mwaure of the Agano Party, William Ruto of Kenya Kwanza, and Raila Odinga of Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya.
There 7,483 eligible voters in various prisons across Kenya, and some 10,443 Kenyans in the Diaspora
The election has drawn a smattering of political parties; 63 in total, with at least 11,330 candidates running for various seats within the political parties.
The grand political contest has also drawn 3752 independent candidates vying for various seats across the country.
According to IEBC election data, 261 women are running for County MP seats across the counties, while 1,473 people are running for Member of Parliament seats.
Other candidates include 9,142 people who are running for County Assembly, while 183 and 263 people are running for Governor and Senator, respectively.

Man Shot Outside Gubernatorial Aspirant’s Office In Uasin Gishu
A middle-aged man in Eldoret is nursing gunshot wounds after being shot in an incident whose details remain unclear.Witnesses say the man was shot outside the campaign secretariat offices of one of the Uasin Gishu gubernatorial aspirants on Monday night. The incident sparked outrage among a number of youth who milled around the area.
It took the efforts of Kapseret member of parliament Oscar Sudi, UDA Uasin Gishu gubernatorial aspirant Jonathan Bii commonly referred to as ‘Koti Moja’ and former Uasin Gishu County speaker David Kiplagat to calm the rowdy youth.

Mgombea Urais wa Chama cha Roots nchini Kenya, Prof. George Wajackoyah ameshindwa kupiga kura baada ya vifaa vya teknolojia ya uchaguzi kushindwa kufanya kazi kwenye kituo cha kupigia kura.Prof. Wajackoyah alifika kituoni hapo saa kumi na robo asubuhi ili kupiga kura, lakini wasimamizi walidai vifaa (Kiems) havifanyi kazi, na wameomba maelekezo kutoka kwa makao makuu.

Tume Huru ya Uchaguzi na Mipaka imetoa mwongozo wa Vituo 84 katika Jimbo la Makueni, Kaunti ya Kibwezi Magharibi, vilivyoidhinishwa kutumia Usajili wa Mkono kupiga kura ikiwa Vifaa vya Mfumo wa Biometriki vitashindwa kuwatambua Wapiga Kura.Vilevile, Vituo vingine 154 vya Kaunti ya Kakamega, hasa katika Majimbo ya Matungu, Mumias Magharibi, na Mumias Mashariki, vimeruhusiwa kutumia mfumo huo.
Mahakama iliiagiza Tume hiyo kutumia Orodha iliyochapishwa ya Wapiga Kura, pindi tu vifaa vya Kielektroniki vinapofeli bila uwezekano wa kukarabatiwa au kubadilishwa.

Polisi walinasa Malori mawili katika eneo Bunge la Endebess Kaunti ya Trans Nzoia yakidaiwa kuwabeba wapiga kura 91 kutoka Uganda kuelekea vituo mbalimbali vya kura.Watu 65 walifanikiwa kutoroka kufuatia usaidizi wa Mbunge wa Endebess, Robert Pukose ambaye alipaza kilio cha kunyanyaswa na Maafisa hao wa Polisi.

Wakenya waliopo Rwanda wampa kura nyingi Odinga
Mgombea Urais kupitia Azimio La Umoja, Raila Odinga amepata Kura nyingi za Wakenya walio Rwanda. Waliopiga Kura ni watu 239 kati ya 545 waliojiandikisha Nchini humo.Odinga amepata Kura 150 sawa na 62.7%, Mpinzani wake, William Ruto wa UDA amepata Kura 81. George Wajackoyah na Waihiga David Mwaure wamepata Kura 4 kila mmoja.

Didmus Barasa amechaguliwa tena kuwa Mbunge wa Kimilili baada ya kupata kura 26,000 akimshinda mpinzani wake wa DAP-K Brian Khaemba aliyepata kura 9,000.Barasa anadaiwa kumpiga risasi na kumuua msaidizi wa Olunga baada ya kukutana eneo la Shule ya Msingi ya Chebukwabi linatumika kuhesabu kura katika .

Zoezi la kukusanya kura za Uchaguzi Mkuu wa Urais kupitia Fomu 34A limekamlika kwa 99.89% hadi kufikia Saa 10:00 Jioni ya Agosti 11, 2022.Mwenyekiti wa Tume Huru ya Uchaguzi na Mipaka (IEBC), Wafula Chebukati amesema kura zimekusanywa katika vituo 46,180 kati ya 46,229.

WAJACKOYAH BADO ANAAMINI ATASHINDA URAIS
Mgombea Urais Nchini Kenya kupitia Chama cha Roots, Profesa George Wajackoyah amedai kuwa bado anaamini ana nafasi ya ushinda Urais na anachosubiri ni matokeo rasmi yatangazwe na Tume Huru ya Uchaguzi na Mipaka (IEBC).Licha ya kuwa matokeo ya awali yanaonesha mgombea wa Kenya Kwanza, William Ruto na mgombea wa Azimio, Raila Odinga ndiyo wanaochuana mbele ya Wajackoyah na mgombea wa Agano, David Mwaure, bado Profesa huyo anaamini yeye ndiye Rais ajae wa Kenya.

Tume imesema Ruto amepata Kura 7,176,141 sawa na asilimia 50.49 huku akifuatiwa na Raila Odinga kutoka Chama cha Azimio la Umoja aliyepata 48. 85% ya kura
Mwenyekiti wa IEBC, Wafula Chebukati ametangaza matokeo hayo baada ya siku sita za kuyasubiri tangu siku iliyopigwa kura, Agosti 9, 2022.
Ruto amewashinda wagombea wenzake ambao ni Raila Odinga, mgombea wa Chama cha Agano, David Waihiga ambaye Agosti 14 alitangaza kushindwa, pamoja na Profesa George Wajackoyah wa Chama cha Roots.
