Hongera Wakenya, Mungu ibariki Kenya.

MK254,

Court refuses to stop CORD demonstrations orders police to provide security
Published on 6 Jun 2016

High court judge Joseph Onguto declined to issue orders stopping ongoing anti-IEBC demonstrations on grounds that the petitioners had not shown any evidence to the court to warrant any orders.
However police were ordered to provide security and ensure public safety.
In his ruling Onguto further noted that the removal of IEBC commissioners from office must be done within the law.
In the case five jubilee MPs led by Ferdinand Waititu had sought to stop the CORD-Led demonstrations against IEBC.

watu 2 wamefariki mjini kisumu.
At least two protesters were shot dead in a rally against the IEBC in Kisumu on Monday, an opposition official said.

Police had fired into the air to break up a crowd trying to march to the electoral body's office in the county, one witness told Reuters.

Protesters accusing the commission of pro-government bias are demanding its members resign before elections in August 2017..

They blocked roads with burning tyres in Migori, Kisumu and Nairobi's Kibera slum. "IEBC must go," demonstrators shouted.

There was no immediate police comment on the reported deaths.

But a witness said a man's body was lying on Oginga Odinga Street, and had a bullet wound in his chest.

Protestors carried the body from the vicinity of Imperial hotel and dumped it on the street.

One other person who was critically injured was rushed to Kisumu district hospital with a bullet wound in the stomach.

The protesters, who lit bonfires on the road, engaged police in running battles as they took over the town.

"Today the protesters are more than expected," the witness said.

One vehicle was torched as police shot in the air to disperse the protesters.

The countrywide protests saw hundreds of Kibera youths carry crude weapons, stones in sacks and sufurias.

On Thika Superhighway in Nairobi, youths from Mathare threw stones at vehicles, forcing motorists to look for alternative routes.

The High Court earlier declined to stop the protests but compelled IG Joseph Boinnet to provide security and ensure public safety .

Cord supporters defied a police ban on anti-IEBC protests and have taken to the streets in various counties, burning tyres and blocking roads .

Police had banned today's protests Cord leaders have defied past warnings insisting IEBC chairman Issack Hassan and his team of commissioners must leave.

Wakati cord walipitisha bill parliament ya kutoa IEBC jubilee waliipuuziliambali hlo kitengo lakini RAIS ana powers za KUVETO anybill to follow his way up to a certain amount I think 5 a year..... The thing is, there is so much behind the scene machinations on both sides. This is one debate you can't discuss along the grounds of right or wrong. There are so many strategy night meetings when media cameras have been taken back to the store. What each one says on camera is far more different from the inside discussions.

Uhuru definitely wouldn't want the current IEBC as constituted to go, and will try anything within his ability to retail them, Raila on the other hand wants each one of them bundled out. Both protagonists have own reasons, some valid while some are mere hypocrisy.

But I hope and trust they will maintain peace, I still have kept my vote for Uhuru and I will vote for him very early in the morning as long as he maintains peace and the current economic development pace. That's my opinion.

Kwangu mimi naomba Uhuru ajaribu kila iwezekanavyo kuwasihi polisi wawe wavumilivu ili kutunza amani. Na aendelee na kuboresha nchi kiuchumi, tutakapopiga kura, yangu ataipata asubuhi mapema, ila ikitokea ameshindwa, asithubutu kung'eng'ania kama mnavyofanya huko kwenu, akubali kushindwa na kwenda kijijini kulima ili tumkaribishe rais mpya atakayekua ameshinda, tumpe ushirikiano na kuendelea kupiga hatua kimaendeleo.
