Kenyans Raid Tarime Village

Hundreds of Kipsigis tribesmen and militia from Trans Mara district in Kenya, on Tuesday torched farms in Tarime district in an unprovoked attack. On Wednesday, Tarime district commissioner Stanley Kolimba, confirmed the attack but gave no details. "I plan to visit the scene of the incident today to find out what really happened and how the attack has impacted on the villagers," Mr Kolimba told reporters.

The area ward executive officer, Mr Dickson Tugara, said about 10 acres of farms were destroyed by the Kipsigis tribesmen. It is estimated that about 250 Kipsigis tribesmen and armed militia from Kenya crossed the boarder and committed crimes without being nabbed by local security personnel. "They destroyed farms planted with banana, cassava, maize and other crops the situation is alarming," the ward executive officer said. The attacks have also denied villagers near the common border access to their farms.

Regional police commander David Saibul was quoted by the local media on Wednesday as saying the invaders also killed one Marwa Marwa, a resident of Kegonga village using a poisoned arrow. They wounded five other people including two women who lost their teethes. Reports from the scene said Kurya men of Wairege clan, engaged the attackers for several hours using poisoned arrows on Sunday and Monday.

Cattle rustling has always been the main source of cross-bourder skirmishes in the area during the past three decades. Two weeks ago, armed rustlers also believed to be Kipsigis tribesmen, stole 29 heads of cattle from Kegonga village in Tarime district. Government leaders in Tarime and Trans Mara districts have been meeting to draw strategies to help improve the security situation along the common border.

They did not come as Kenyans and attacked the Kurya villagers as defenceless Tanzanian victims. It will take intra-regional and inter-governmental efforts kusaga hawa magaidi. Basi Juni kulifanyika operesheni kali iliyoleta pamoja majeshi ya Uganda na polisi ya Kenya. Amini usiamini UPDF waliingia hadi kilomita zaidi ya thelathini kuponda wakorofi hawa. Wengine walilia eti Kenya inavamiwa lakini serikali iliwaacha wapewe adhabu.
