Kenya is currently the third largest tourism economy in Sub-Saharan Africa after South Africa and Nigeria, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife.

In a statement, the ministry said Last year, travel and tourism grew by 5.6 per cent to contribute Sh790 billion and 1.1 million jobs to the Kenyan economy.

This, it said beats the average global growth of 3.9 per cent and the Sub-Saharan Africa average of 3.3 per cent.



With over two million international arrivals, international tourists spent over Sh 157 billion in Kenya last year, accounting for over 15 per cent of total exports. The largest inbound international markets were the USA, UK, India, China and Germany at 11, 9, 6, 4 and 4 per cent respectively.

Combined with domestic spending, travel and tourism supported 8.8 per cent of the nation’s GDP in 2018, an increase from about 3.7 per cent in 2017.

The ministry said close collaboration with private and institutional investors, conservation and regional development agencies has ensured the economic potential of the sector is prudently and sustainably managed.

Under the banner ‘Kenyans for wildlife and wildlife for Kenyans’, the ministry said it is focused on improving and modernising the country's wildlife conservation sector.

This, it said, has a direct impact on the tourism sector, of which 70 per cent is wildlife based.

“Travel and tourism is a sector which has proven to drive economic growth, create jobs and boost social inclusion,” president and CEO of World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), Gloria Guevara said.

Kiswahili ni lugha 'diverse' sana jombaa. Ndio maana huwa tunawashanga pia mkisema kudadeki na acha fiksi. Chimbuko la jambo bwana ni kule Mwambao, home of swahili. Tena huwa linatumiwa tu kuwaamkua watalii na wageni wasioelewa kiswahili, kwahivyo hakuna matata.

Boss, ni wapi hapo niliposema kwamba mpangilio wa maneno hayo ni rasmi kwa kiswahili. Soma hiyo comment yangu ya hapo awali mara tatu na uache ukudas. *Alafu sio malidhawa ni maridhawa.

Haya basi, nadhani hapo hata wakenya pale CHAKITA watakubali, kwamba chimbuko la hakuna matata ni Kenya. CHAKITA(Chama cha Kiswahili cha Taifa) ndio taasisi rasmi ya kufanya utafiti na kukuza lugha ya kiswahili Kenya. CHAKITA ndio walifanya tafsiri ya katiba mpya ya Kenya 2010, nilichukua copy kutoka kwao enzi hizo na ilikuwa safi kabisa.

Ni jambo nzuri boss, CHAKITA ya Kenya na BAKITA ya Tz wana uhusiano mzuri sana na naongea kuhusu kitu nachokijua vyema. Nadhani nguvu za kwa pamoja zinahitajika sana kukikuza kiswahili ili kisambae hadi nje ya ukanda huu. Kuhusu kukikuza kiswahili usitegemee ubishi wowote kutoka kwangu. Tuna mengi sana ya kuiga kutoka Tz na mimi binafsi nimehusishwa kwenye mambo mawili matatu ya kuhakikisha kwamba agenda hiyo haipuuzwi Kenya.

Revenues from Tanzania’s tourism sector increased by 7.13% in 2018 compared to 2017 thanks to the increase in arrivals from foreign visitors, the government disclosed. Revenues reached USD 2.43 billion in 2018, up from USD 2.19 billion in 2017, while tourist arrivals totaled 1.49 million compared with 1.33 million, Tanzania’s Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa said in a presentation to parliament. According to the latest available International Visitors’ Exit Survey Report of 2017 by the National Bureau of Statistics of Tanzania (NBS), tourism earnings were USD 2,13 billion in 2016 with 1.2 million arrivals. The distribution of arrivals by region indicates that Europe continued to account for the largest share in 2017, followed by Asia and the Pacific, the Americas, Africa, and the Middle East. Recently, Tanzania’s Ambassador to China, Mr. Mbelwa Kairuki, disclosed that the China National Travel Service Group Corporation (CTS) is planning to invest in Tanzania’s tourism sector by constructing hotels on the mainland and Zanzibar.
