CENTRE DIRECTOR

Duty Station: Amani and Tukuyu Centres

Qualifications and Experience

• A PhD in health related subjects

• Senior Research Member of Staff

• Good Research Record

• Extensive knowledge and experience of NIMR System and management

• Publications: At least seventeen publications in peer reviewed journals (six of which as first author)

Skills:

• Previous working experience in research preferably as Director or Head of Department

• Experience in Management of Research and Development institutions.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Shall be the scientific and administrative head of the respective Centre and as such shall be responsible to the Director General through the HQ Directors for maintaining an efficient and effective management of the Centre.

• Promote excellence in research programme of the centre;

• Guide the Centre with respect to research by setting goals ion under the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. The Institute uing, Monitoring and promoting of Medical Research in Tanzania.

• Co-ordinate research commitments in consultation with Heads/Coordinators of research programme units;

• Bring opportunities for research, publications and conference attendance to the attention of all staff and assist them to take advantage of such opportunities using transparent and objective criteria of merit;

• Identify Centre research agenda and set priorities in consultation with Centre research units and staff;

• Plan for future of the Centre with regards to new research programmes, and be actively involved in mobilizing resources to realize the plans;

• Responsible for coordination of efficient and effective implementation of decisions and directives of the Centre Governing Board, Scientific Board and Council

• Account quarterly for all Centre expenditures through heads of all Centre units meetings and the Centre Governing Board

• Prepare and submit to HQ DRP and DCS an annual research. and financial report of the Centre timely, etc.

Duty Station: Amani Hill Research Station

Qualifications and Experience

PhD degree qualification in the health sciences

• Must have good working experience at a senior level in a recognized research institution or four years in scientific or research related field at a senior level with at least fifteen good quality publications in peer reviewed journals (four of which is first author).

• Must command National and lnternationc! recognition in the respective research speciality.

• Must be a mature person able to conduct respect among subordinate staff and other executives.

• Must have good interpersonal relationship with colleagues.



Duties and Responsibilities

• To head a station;

• To advise the Director of Research Coordination and Promotion on all matters related to Research Development and Training for the station;

• To Chair station Management and Scientific Committee;

• To develop/update and implement, upon approval by Director of Research Coordination and Promotion/Centre Director, strategies for better coordination of health research within the station and contribute to research coordination in NIMR and Tanzania;

• To establish and implement strategies promoting research at the station in accordance with NIMR development/strategic plans;

• To ensure the development of research proposals for station/directorate and be active in soliciting research funds.

• To ensure timely submission of financial and technical reports in relation to station functions;

• To plan and manage station's resources efficiently;

• To make and implement maintenance plans of the station assets/equipment;

• To perform any other duty that may be directed by the Director General/or Centre Director in - charge of the respective Research Station.
