Position: Transcriber – Translators
Looking for efficient, reliable, and conscientious transcriber-translators for very long Kiswahili and English interviews used in social science research at KCMC. This large piece of research investigates psychological and cultural aspects of Tanzanians’ lives. The translation and transcription work will be conducted over a period of 6-9 months this academic year and will require substantial weekly hours.

Job requirements;
• Good Knowledge of English and Swahili language
• Translation skills, professional reliability, good time management, and excellent communication skills.
• Experience in transcription/translation is preferable.
• Experience with social science research is welcome.
• Occasional meetings in Moshi and timely responses to emails are required.
The project may lead to other opportunities with research being conducted at KCMC with US universities.

• how much time you estimate a two-hour interview in English with two participants takes you to transcribe – both the hours required to do the work and your response time (in days) to complete this work
• how much time you estimate a two-hour interview in Kiswahili with two participants takes you to transcribe and translate into English– both the hours required to do the work and your response time (in days) to complete this work
• how many hours a week you expect to have available for this work starting in December
• contact information for references who can attest to your prior work experience and qualifications, including your professionalism
A short list of applicants will be asked to transcribe and translate a sample 10-minute interview in Kiswahili and to transcribe a sample 10-minute interview in English to demonstrate their skills.
