JK names 11 new High Court judges

President Jakaya Kikwete has named 11 new judges of the High Court of Tanzania, seven of them women.A State House statement issued in Dar es Salaam yesterday said the appointments took effect on May 24.
The judges include former Court of Appeal Registrar Sophia Wambura, Crecencia William Makuru, Zainabu Goronya Muruke, Upendo Hillary Msuya, Atuganile Florida Ngwala, and Rose Aggrey Teemba.
The others are former Principal Parliamentary Draftsman Rehema Kiwanga Mkuye, advocate Kassim Nyangarika, Gabriel Kamugisa Rwakibarila, Ibrahim Sayida Mipawa, and Lawrence Kisenge Nziajose Kaduri.
The statement said the president has also named Ferdinand Leons Katipwa Wambali as Wambura`s successor at the Court of Appeal.
He was before the changes Senior Deputy Registrar at the same court.
This is the second time President Kikwete has appointed High Court judges since he assumed power in late 2005, the first time being last year when he named 20.
Announcing last year`s appointments, he said the aim was to speed up the administration of justice mainly by reducing delays in the hearing of cases that are commonly blamed on a serious shortage of judges and magistrates.
