It's the accountability, stupid

Question: Explain the term "accountability?"

Mwana-CCM: Oh, that's an easy one! It means "let mafisadi go unpunished."

(Bzzzzt): Wrong answer!

May I have a definition, please?

Accountability is defined as "X is accountable to Y when X is obliged to inform Y about X's actions and decisions (past or future), to justify them, and to suffer punishment in the case of eventual misconduct." (Encyclopedia, Wikipedia)

And there you have it: "to suffer punishment in the case of eventual misconduct."

Now, grab some popcorn, a diet soda, and then meet Muleba Kusini MP (CCM), The Honorable Wilson Masilingi.

"Kamwe hatutakubali kuwafunga gerezani watoto wetu kwa shinikizo la wahisani."

Yep, that's him (just a couple of days ago on the floor of National Assembly) criticizing the international donor community for imposing harsh conditions which would require all mafisadi guys to be brought before the court of justice/serve time in jail (if proved guilty).

In fact, his words of immense stupidity echoed those of another CCM legislator, Samwel Chitalilo (Buchosa MP) who was also quoted in a local newspaper as saying, "it was a complete waste of time" to continue discussing the public figures implicated in a number of corruption scandals-including his dear friend Andrew Chenge who resigned recently amid allegations that he had a suspicious bank account (amounting to 1.2bn/-) in Jersey Island, UK.

It makes you really wonder whether if Masilingi and Chitalilo have been paying no attention at all to what is already known about EPA , Richmond, IPTL, and Net Group or it's simply a well orchestrated campaign to shield those who were largely involved in those scandals from accountability.

Whatever that is, there is some sort of unwanted pattern emerging here. It is wrong, and we ought to be outraged.

To paraphrase Walt Whitman, if we lose our roughness and spirit of defiance, and let these morons (CCM legislators) shield the so-called Mafisadi guys form accountability (and let ‘em go unpunished), there is nothing that will impede tyranny from tsvangirai-ing ( just made up this word ) itself upon our country.

It's time we raise up our voices and say-enough is enough. We are tired of being deprived.

Equally important, it's time we start using elections to demand greater accountability from our government officials. That is to say, we need to stop voting against our social and economic interests over craps like " nambari one ni CCM…, and baba huyo...,"

Moreover, it's time we start holding our public officials/politicians accountable for their past records/promises.

Take, for instance, in 2005 election. You all remember what Kikwete promised to do in his first term in office. He promised to create one million jobs, improve people's living conditions, tackle corruption, make poverty history, review all mining contracts and take corrective measures.(Just to name a few…)

But has he really delivered on what he promised?

No, no, no!

Until then ( au revoir ),

NB:Accountability hapa ni SERIKALI KUWAJIBIKA!
Kama hawataki kusema who is accountable...Then waulize tutawaambia.
Tutawaambia who is accountable and why.
Accountability should be towards justice...JUSTICE TO THE PEOPLE!
JUSTICE TO THE PEOPLE MEANS HOLDING THE CORRUPT LEADERS ACCOUNTABLE.

It's time we raise up our voices and say—enough is enough.

Hata babu zetu walimwambia mkoloni enough is enough, mkoloni kaondoka lkn unyonyaji haukuondoka. THe problem we are facing now is that our exploiter looks like us. When we sing they also sing with us. Everyone calls himself copmrade including the biggest bourgeoisies in the country.

Yes, I agree with you Zitto. We should seriously hold our Leaders accountable for their "actions and inactions." No one is above the law. You break the law, you go to jail. Period.
