Kenya has announced stringent immigrations measures aimed stemming the spread of new Covid-19 variants into the country.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe says it will now be mandatory for foreigners to have a Covid-19 certificate before entering the country adding that Kenya has adopted a restrictive protocol to have foreigners traveling into the country to have a covid-19 certificate.
“Those who are abroad including foreigners if they want to come to our country Kenya, they must be vaccinated for them to gain entry,” he said speaking at a school fundraiser in Kisii county on Sunday.
The health Secretary denied making vaccination mandatory but warned it was more than necessary.
“If you have not been vaccinated and you want to enter a plane, a car or even government offices. If you want to come to my office like that do not come, just call,” Kagwe said.
Cognisant of the ongoing campaigns and the forthcoming electioneering calendar, Kagwe challenged the political class to use their political rallies to urge their supporters to get vaccinated and take advantage of the influence they have on the masses and the crowds they attract in their political rallies.
“I urge all politicians, even before we start talking about politics in every meeting, you should start by encouraging people on being vaccinated,” he said.
