Issuance of visas, residence permits now to be online
TANZANIA will soon start processing and issuing visa and residence permits through e-visa and e-residence permit systems, it has been revealed.
Dodoma regional immigration officer Peter Kundy.
The development was revealed yesterday by Dodoma regional immigration officer Peter Kundy during an interview with The Guardian at the ongoing Nane Nane Agricultural Exhibition in central zone.
According to him, in the recent past the Ministry of Home Affairs had also improved technologies on service delivery at the Immigration department, a move which plugged loopholes for corruption.
"The new technologies include installation of e-passport, e-receipt, e- border management and control systems, as well as e-payment in all immigration services," he detailed.
He said advancement in the technology had played a major role in fast-tracking and ensuring quality service delivery by the department.
"With the new technology we now issue passports to our clients based in Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar within seven days, whereas those based in other regions are able to collect their within 14 days," he said.
However, he pointed out that in emergency cases, an applicant could obtain a passport within a single day.
Moreover, he said major improvements in technology in agencies such as the National Identification Authority (NIDA) and the Registration, Insolvency and Trusteeship Agency (RITA) had also played a major role in enabling them to fast-track service delivery.
Currently, the Immigration department issues ordinary, service, diplomatic and temporary passports.
