Is WikiLeaks revelation a diversionary tactic?

In the last few days, there has been an intense and charged discussion about Weakleak revelation on what is alleged to be the President's dress offer from the owners of Kempiski Hotel, the President's request for training opportunity for two former state house operatives, and Membe's view on French Government. This discussion came barely hours after a more serious and stunning revelation about the real perpetrators of the EPA financial fleecing through Kagoda Agriculture Limited. The ownership of Kagoda and movement of the fleeced funds was uncovered by a lawyer friend, an activist and self confessed Chadema stalwart, Kainerugaba Msemakweli. Through Msemakweli, Tanzanians have, for the first time, been treated to what was otherwise a guarded secret about who the owners of Kagoda are, how they accessed the funds, how they externalized it etc, etc. But more significantly, we are now aware that not a single sent of the Kagoda funds was spent on Kikwete's bid to state house. Msemakweli has pledged utmost cooperation with a view to ensuring that those who are responsible are brought to account. He has since recorded a statement with the investigators.

In the midst of this significant debate, some smart guys have sneaked in a debate about who funded acquisition of the then Foreign Minister's attire and other less important and trivial issues. These trifling issues have overtaken the debate on Kagoda and the initiators of the threads are pulling as many contributors as possible, and the discussion has now taken an ugly personal turn that has no bearing on the problems that our people are currently embroiled in. The Kagoda issue been consigned to a back burner and a section of contributors has already started to ridicule efforts so far employed by Msemakweli.

The timing of the weakleak revelation and the nature of the discussion leaves little doubt that there is a deliberate effort to scuttle the efforts so far employed by Msemakweli and the like minded Tanzanians who are determined to get to the root of the scam and move the authorities to act decisively against the perpetrators and beneficiaries of the EPA scam. For sure, the efforts to dramatize trivial or petty issues at this point in time is nothing but a diversionary tactic that should be resisted vigorously!

Look at Manji's unsigned statement. He is trying to malign and discredit Msemakweli but the fact remains that he should deal with the message and not the messenger.

This is really appreciated. You have certainly hit the bull. The only consolation is that this cannot go on forever. There will come a time when people will realise that some people are just noise makers without any real desire to fight the evils that are being perpetrated to the majority poor of this country.

Niia kubwa ya Msemakweli nadhani ni kuwachonganisha jamaa ndani kwa ndani. Of course it is good for us whichever way, kwani tunachoangalia ni matokeo ya kuona these culprits are brought to justice. Anajua fika kwamba akitamka CCM si ma beneficiary wa EPA, basi the masses will rally in support.
But truth be told, we know to a great extent that, ni sharti kwamba campaign ilipata hela kabla ya uchaguzi. Swali ni - hizo hela zilitoka wapi na kuingiaje kwenye campaign trail ya CCM, na hilo ndo' jambo la kuangaliwa. "Nimeshaambiwa" kwamba mtu kama Mramba alikuwa na masanduku kibao yenye noti kutoka BoT (yale ya mizinga) nyumbani kwake kwa ajili ya uchaguzi. Katika pilika pilika za ku-handle hiyo mipesa mingi, ilibidi amkabidhishe mwanaye wa kiume majukumu ya kuangalia na kugawa...

Basi kilichopo hapa ni kuangalia kama hizo hela za EPA, ambazo wajanja walikuwa wanazijua zipo idle kwa muda mrefu, ziliibiwa baada ya uchaguzi ili kufidia deficit iliyoachwa na uporaji wa mabillioni kwa ajili ya kufanikisha uchaguzi in time. Na kwa vile CCM ilikuwa imeshashinda, basi ku-organise cover-up ya traces ilikuwa easier kama opposition ingeliingia madarakani, jambo ambalo lisingewezekana kwa kipindi hicho cha 2005. Hivyo hela zilichukuliwa toka BoT kabla ya uchaguzi bila nyaraka wala trace, kisha EPA ikachukua nyingi zaidi ili kufidia pengo lililoachwa na nyingine kuneemesha majangiri!!!
