JF members,

Circumcision was a sign of the covenant made between God and Abraham's offspring of promise. it represented a "marking" by God on those who were sons of the covenant made with Abraham.

Abraham's son of promise, Isaac was circumcised on the eighth day as instructed by God. From that time circumcision became a most important rite in Israel and was carefully honored by the Jews in the days of Jesus. Ishmael, Abraham's other son by handmaid Hagar, was circumcised at age thirteen and to this day Arabs practice circumcision upon their males at age thirteen.

Where did "Genital Mutilation for female come from? Is it allowed in Islam or Christianity?

-But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.
1Corinthians 12:18.
-In Islam circumcision of males is allowed, but genital mutilation is not allowed!
-Circumcision for female is not allowed in Islam.
-Allah Almighty honored the intimacy between the husband and the wife.
-The old Testament mentions only male genital mutilation.

Female genital mutilation is not only traumatic but highly dangerous and often leads to life long pain and suffering,or even death, for girls who are subjected to the procedure. So many women have died through this filth practice.

Circumcision is not medically necessary and certainly doesn't seem natural. Why would God create us with certain parts of our bodies that just need to be cut off?

Catechism of the Catholic Church item 2297: Respects for bodily integrity:
"......Except when performed for strictly therapeutic medical reasons, directly intended amputations, mutilations, and sterilizations performed on innocent persons are against the moral law."

Let us not forget that in some areas like Tarime (Kurya) and Arusha (Maasai) here in Tanzania, circumcision for male and genital mutilation for women is traditionally regarded as heroism and a step forward to adulthood (readiness to marry or to be married)!

It is also a source of income to both circumcised ones receiving gifts from families, relatives and neighbors while in return medical and traditional practitioners are being payed in terms of cash money, foods and drinks or animals like goats, sheep or cows!

My recognition and respect to women goes a little bit far from this thread. From women's wombs we were made and born! Back to our topic then, where are the cut parts (prepuces and clitorises) taken to? Are they buried or burnt? In Tarime these cut parts are said to be taken to a traditional sacred place for rituals!!

Safe male circumcision is beneficial in the following areas:- It improves male reproductive organ hygiene, lowers the incidence of cervical cancer for women they have sex with, lowers the risk of HIV transmission.
