"Cooperation instead of confrontation in nuclear fields is in the interest of all sides," President Ahmadinejad said, addressing a group of US elites in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting. He pointed to his address at the UN six year ago in which he asked for the formation of an international consortium for nuclear enrichment in Iran, and added, "Today, Iran needs at least 4 nuclear reactors for power generation and the US companies can participate in the construction of these power plants." Iran has already built its first nuclear power plant in Southern port city of Bushehr with Russia's help. Earlier, Ahmadinejad told a news conference in New York that his government is in discussion with Russia about constructing another nuclear power plant in Iran. Ahmadinejad said Iran needs an additional 19,000 megawatts, or twenty times the power that the Bushehr nuclear plant (also built by Russia) currently provides. |
