JF Members, We all know that there is a lot of publicity regarding the male condom, yet no similar initiatives to promote the female condom which is an important prevention tool for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections as well as unplanned pregnancy. The female condom is critical as a woman-controlled method which offers women the power to take control over their protection. Note that the polyurethane material from which female condoms are made has additional benefits in comparison to latex rubber from which most locally available male condoms are made: 1. Polyurethane plastic does not have the potential to provoke allergic reactions as does latex rubber. 2. Polyurethane plastic is a better conductor of heat than latex rubber. 3. Polyurethane plastic is more resilient than latex rubber thus does not rupture easily. In Tz there are brands such as "Care" and "Lady Pepeta" which are readily available.Im not sure about use of this condom by women or if men support women in using this protective thingy! Can we have testimonies regarding use of the female condom?
