Dar es Salaam, January 2018: Hyatt Regency Dar es Salaam, The Kilimanjaro has been named the winner of the 2017 national competition for health and environmental cleanliness which was held by the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children (MoHCDEC) (Tanzania).

The competition was held among the hotels in Tanzania, by reviewing the different categories in water treatment, health, cleanliness, staff changing rooms, and waste disposal under the inspections and oversight coordinated by the National Environment Management Council (NEMC).

The Hotel General Manager, Mr. Garry Friend said, “I am thrilled to accept this award on behalf of all Hyatt staff but particularly, I would like to thank the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children which has been very supportive of the hospitality industry in every way and in enabling this safe and forward thinking example with the establishment of the national sanitation campaign ‘NIPO TAYARI.’”

Mr. Timothy Mlay, the Director of Rooms added that, “Despite the impacts on the environment from human activity, everyone must do their part. We can restore and clean the environment, and on our part we are making some renovations to our building but we still need to solve the source of all these environmental effects.

“For example, at Hyatt we have tried our best in reducing water consumption by controlling the water flows from 12 litres to 6 litres per minutes (hand wash) and from 14 litres to 8 litres per minute (shower), in addition to reducing the overall consumption of electricity.

The hotel received another four awards in 2017, a Certificate of Excellence in 2017 by TripAdvisor, Luxury Business Hotel from World Luxury Hotel Awards (WLHA), and Tanzania’s Leading Business Hotel 2017 and Tanzania’s Leading Hotel 2017 from the World Travel Awards (WTA).
