“It is very crucial to verify your devices upon purchase so as to be sure that your device is original. For a customer to know whether a cell phone is genuine or not one should dial *#06# from any devices???, upon which they will receive an IMEI number that again has to be sent as a text message to 15090 to receive a reply showing whether the cell phone is original or fake. For Huawei Smartphones you will receive a reply from TCRA with your phone model eg. (Huawei technologies Co Ltd-HUAWEI Mate 8). Commented Mr Jacko.
According to TCRA about 40% of mobile phones in use in Tanzania are counterfeits. Fake handsets are not only a threat to mobile vendors businesses but to the government and the country at large. As Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) plans to effect a nationwide switch-off of counterfeit Huawei Device Tanzania sees the move as a necessity to the trends that is geared towards curbing crimes, increasing revenue, protecting consumers from substandard phones, safeguarding mobile payment systems as well as to harmonizing communications countrywide.
There is a common misconception in Tanzania with consumers believing that a touch screen is a qualifying factor for a smartphone. And this is what has accelerated to a number of counterfeits flooding the Tanzanian market.
