Today is a big day, Fund.com sold for $10,000,000. Well, technically it sold for $9,999,950 in an all-cash transaction, though I am not sure why $50 was withheld from making it an even $10M. Even in this slow market we are seeing record-setting sales figures. A publicly-reported transaction of this size is rare, I know of a few domains well above $10M, such as Poker.com and Sex.com, that never officially disclosed their prices. The few runners-up so far have been Business.com and Porn.com which both didn’t quite make it to the $10 Million dollar range but were very close.

It takes a lot of work to broker a domain at this price, what could have been registered for nothing 20 years ago is now worth more money then one man could spend. The generic domains that command power are these category domains. With our upcoming auction in April at the Domain Roundtable in San Francisco we will be selling a few domains that may set off a price alert. We encourage anyone with great domains who wants liquidity in a Live Auction to contact us. Last year we sold just under $4 million dollars in domain names in a few hours.

They Real Made Profit....! Is Jf Going To Follow Same Procedures?

jf can't be for sale...it will loose its credibility...huwezi kuuza maoni ya watu...Ownership=control=rules=cencorship=in the interest of a particular group..

Interesting. Kapinga, can you elaborate? Just curious.

mmmmmh ! .... very interesting indeed!!

Well i kinda came to that conclusion from what we see from sites like Myspace!! People loved it when it started, They felt at home to express themselves etc but once news spread that it was sold off to a major company (NewsCorp)..its slowly loosing members...there is something about fully knowing that no one is controlling your movements...once that is taken away..its the end of that...

Back to JF..If someone is to buy JF then all the members wont feel like they are part of this 'movement' (As JF is 'all of us' not a group of few...once a group establishes ownership and control of some sort over others or for some agenda, the rest will move elsewer (in my eyes)) , the movement will loose credibility and thats going to be the end of JF..
'Will we dare to talk openly if we knew that Ippmedia or HabariCorp or NewsCorp owns JF??'

Very good insight. But why does someone like Ipp or whoever have to buy a website? I always wonder, what if the members buy it? I mean, if you see potential, why not?

The entire act of buying it will be either for profit or some other agenda at the end of the day..Tanzanian Media Corps shud have an interest in JF as there are all kinds of interesting topics affecting the day to day life of the average Tanzanian being discussed here that could benefit their companies..If a group of members want to buy JF, the question will arise as to what end??

At the moment no one asks that as we know JF makes 0 money..thats were the sense of freedom of the members lie..the day we have a million adverts on JF and fully commercialise it..we shall see the kind of brains that will come through here...the critical thinking will die with it...
there are so many blogs and forums (political or pure entertainment)
Michuzi Blog for instance..(i go there on a daily basis but i jus read and watch as i knw my comment or thoughts won't even matter but at JF in my eyes there is a sense that we are playing our part indirectly (can be open for debate)) (a sense of the coming together of like minds) and thats what makes each one of us feel like we own this forum.

Can anyone prove with evidence that Fund.com really worths that $ 10 Million??
I know some pretty good domains that should have been sold in a much higher price but they ended up in BEI ZA NYANYA.

You miss the point of the market economy, it is not what you are worth, it is what you can get away with as what you are worth.Even in interviews this is very important, perception and marketing is everything.

Were you trying to give an answer??

The explanation is beyond the answer you are seeking, you cannot "prove" anything at that magnitude of complexity in the dismal science.

You can establish that things are priced not according to their worth, but to their perceived and marketed worth.

Good answer Mheshimiwa.
Thanks.
