Yes indeed dear friends! It has been four years since we entered into the arena of public discourse in a fashion and manner never seen before; in online debates, political columns in our newspapers, in contribution in TVs and our own netcasting we have put our mark in the thoughts of our people. I know not all and not many, but some. Yes we have.
We didn't know then that we would be facing such immense and incredible political opportunities in our nation nor did we expect that the Tanzanian public will be so receptive of the message of ideological conflict we promulgated then. We didn't know we would inspire people, we will offend some, and in a fashion of our own imagination we dared to go where no one has gone before. For that we are eternally grateful.
When we started on March 1, 2006 our mission was very simple and clear. We wanted to challenge the status quo, expose public corruption, reveal mediocrity and incompetence in public leadership and propose new way of thinking and acting as we try to build a modern African nation; yes, a modern Tanzanian nation. We have simply done that so far.
From the time we dealt with the issue of armed robbery during the disgraced IGP Mr. Omar Mahita's term as the national Chief of Police to the debates that followed Hubert Sauper's Oscar nominated documentary Darwin's Nightmare we stayed our course. How can we forget one of the injustices carried against the Member of Parliament the late Amina Chifupa and the hypocrisy shown at the time? How can we forget the Gov. Ballali masterfully eternal disappearance from the country that gave him so much and owed him even more!? How can we not call to mind our own contribution in the Richmond investigation and later our exclusive revelation about the triangle of corruption in the Dowans saga that our leaders have refused to pursue so far?
What about our failed efforts to assist those young Tanzanian students in Ukraine abandoned by their government and forced to drop from colleges because the government that screwed up their scholarships didn't want to rectify its mistakes? How can we forget in good conscience those words spoken by the then Premier Lowassa as our young people were sleeping outside UK's Embassy in Kiev , "nakula sasa hivi bwana"! or what about those words by President Kikwete that "kama wameshindwa kushughulikia wangeniambia"?
We can go back and revisit with pride and sometimes with sadness and comprehension the issues and courses we championed or dealt with; those which resulted into goodness and others that we simply failed for whatever reason.
In whatever case, we are still standing; proud as before, committed even more, and absolutely unshaken and unbowed. We cannot claim that the mission has been accomplished; nor sir, we cannot. We cannot act as if we have reached that proverbial "mountain top" like others before us, no we haven't. We know we have not changed every single mind and we have not convinced every person and we definitely know that new challenges and new issues still await us in the near future. We are not backing down now! We are groping forward with a determination such as that of a religious zealot.
As long as the challenges remain, so is our dedication to our nation; as long as the corrupt people still want to rule over so is our determination to oppose them; as long as mediocrity and incompetence are accepted and rewarded so is our courage to expose and defeat them. We are not backing down now nor ever!
We do not know what the future has in store for us but we are ready to face it; We have no idea how will all this end, but we know when it ends we will still be holding our heads high, our face straight and our hearts forever joyful.
So my friends, enemies, critics, fans, opponents and those who still live in a continuous state of indecision here we are! Me and those who have supported me, counseled me, stood by me, corrected me and sometimes chastised me we are still owe our love and our allegiance to our nation. We are still forever in the service our people as we continue with the mission.
Yes! It is not over yet, the election year 2010 is not the end of it! Whatever happens the mission still endures, hope survives and faith still lives! as a new generation of leaders is slowly taking place in the corridors of history, curving itself in the national tree of prosperity our people are getting ready. Ready for change that is inevitable and necessary!
Yes, four years later we are unbowed, untamed, unshaken and absolutely unapologetic to none but totally and unconditionally continue to stand with our beloved country and this beautiful land of ours to inspire the rebuilding of a new modern, democratic, developed, and prosperous Tanzanian nation!
