Focus is more important than talent, intelligence, and connections combined.

In our world today, distraction is the single greatest obstacle guarding the path toward success.

People vastly underestimate the power of distraction, and it’s now-ingrained status in our everyday lives. We check our phones minute by minute. We interrupt our trains of thought to Instagram, Snapchat, and capture as many moments as possible. We respond before we’ve thought, and we are rarely disconnected. Interruption is both common and accepted—and that’s a problem.

If you are easily distracted, you will never gain the deep understanding of your craft required to surpass your competition. You will forever be whipped around from noise to noise, incapable of ever clearly planting your feet and being able to say to yourself, “This is what I want to build, and I’m going to do whatever is required of me in order to do so.”

If you want to be successful, you have to prioritize mastering the skill of focus. Without focus, you will be unable to master anything else.
