PUBLIC NOTICE ON CAP PRICES FOR PETROLEUM PRODUCTS EFFECTIVE
WEDNESDAY, 2nd JANUARY 2019
The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) hereby publishes Cap Prices for petroleum products, applicable in Tanzania Mainland.
These retail and wholesale prices are applicable effective Wednesday, 2
nd January 2019. Hereinafter, kindly take note of the following:
(a) Retail and wholesale prices for Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene imported in the country through Dar es Salaam port have decreased compared to prices that were published on 5th December 2018.
For the month of January 2019, retail prices of Petrol, Diesel and
Kerosene have decreased by TZS 141/litre (equivalent to 5.80%), TZS 212/litre (equivalent to 8.69%) and TZS 167/litre (equivalent to 7.03%), respectively. Similarly, compared to
the publication of last month, wholesale prices of Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene have also decreased by TZS 140.81/litre (equivalent to 6.09%), TZS 211.12/litre (equivalent to 9.14%) and TZS 166.02/litre (equivalent to 7.40%), respectively.
The change in local
prices of petroleum products is mainly due to a decrease in the world oil market prices as
shown in Table C.
(b) Retail and wholesale prices for Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene imported through Tanga port have also changed compared to prices that were published on 5th December 2018.
For the month of January 2019, retail prices of Petrol and Diesel in the Northern regions have decreased by TZS 237/litre (equivalent to 9.73%) and TZS 138/litre (equivalent to 5.80%), respectively while prices Kerosene have increased by TZS 4/litre (equivalent to 0.19%).
Likewise, wholesale prices of Petrol and Diesel at Tanga storage terminal have also decreased by TZS 236.31/litre (equivalent to 10.23%) and TZS 137.56/litre (equivalent to 6.10%), respectively while the price of Kerosene has increased by TZS 4.17/litre (equivalent to 0.20%).
The changes in prices of petroleum products in the Northern regions are attributed mainly to the decrease in the world oil market prices, increases in BPS premiums and a slight depreciation of the Tanzanian Shilling against the United States Dollar, the currency used in the procurement of petroleum products.
(c) There was no new consignment of petroleum products imported through Mtwara port in the month of December 2018. Due to lack of Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene at Mtwara storage terminals, Petrol Station Operators in Mtwara, Lindi and Ruvuma regions are advised to source the products from Dar es Salaam and therefore, the retail prices of petroleum products for those regions is based on the cost of the products received through Dar es Salaam port and bridging cost to the regions.
(d) It is worth noting that, the differences in changes of petroleum prices for products received
through Dar es Salaam and Tanga ports is mainly because changes in prices for Dar es Salaam is a comparison between world market prices of November 2018 and October 2018 while; changes in prices for Tanga is a comparison between world market prices for November 2018 and September 2018 because the m preceding consignment of petroleum products through Tanga port was received in October 2018 with the cost of the consignment being the world oil market prices of September 2018.
