EPZA is to spend Tsh. 400 billion to revive old Bagamoyo into a modern city

THE Export Processing Zone Authority
(EPZA) has developed plans designed to
transform sleepy Bagamoyo from being the oldest town in Tanzania into a modern, vibrant metropolis and business hub for the East African region.


The master plan, whose budget currently stands at Tsh400 billion, will enable Bagamoyo to serve as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ), complete with the requisite infrastructure to support economic activities.

It is to be implemented under public-private partnership arrangements (PPP), the project involves the development of a new port at Mbegani, a new Bagamoyo airport, major roads, industrial areas, trade areas and tourism attraction sites,as well as residential areas and
facilities for social activities.
