The Wildlife Conservation Society of Tanzania (WCST) is a national Non-governmental (NGO), non-profit making and membership based civil society organization. Established in 1987, its main aim is conserving flora, fauna and their environment. WCST works with the Government and other stakeholders including local and international partners and the general public to realize its objectives.

1. Post Title: Deputy Chief Coordinator
Grade: 5
Department: Conservation and Programme Development Department
Reports to the Chief Coordinator
Duty Station: Dar es Salaam

Job Responsibilities and Duties
As Head of the Conservation and Programme Development Department, shall ensure and direct the implementation of conservation and programme development.
As Head of the Conservation and Programme Development Department he/she shall ensure and direct the implementation of functions of the department. Shall be responsible for initiating reviews, formulation, monitoring and evaluation of strategic and business plans of WCST.
1. Assist the Chief Coordinator in overall supervision of conservation activities of WCST, steer and manage activities with partners and deputise the Chief Coordinator in his/her absence;
2. Take a lead role in the overall responsibility for development of programme and project proposals within WCST including designing and presentation;
3. Facilitate promotion and development of in-house capacity in writing competitive project proposals for presentation to funding agencies;
4. Facilitate establishment and operationalisation of Management Information Systems of the Society;
5. Manage the implementation of activities of projects of the Society in collaboration with other members of the Secretariat;
6. Take a lead role in fund raising activities including writing fundable project proposals for generating funds to sustain the Society;
7. Coordinate the preparation of projects' annual and quarterly action plans and budgets and ensure their effective and timely implementation;
8. Prepare and timely submit to the Chief Coordinator monthly, quarterly and annual performance and financial reports;
9. Build a competent and committed team of employees; and
10. Perform any other duties as directed by the Chief Coordinator.

Key Qualification and Experience
1. Must have an M.Sc. degree in wildlife, forestry, natural resources management, environmental science, or any other relevant field from recognised universities;
2. Knowledge and skills in design, development, management, monitoring and evaluation of projects, human resource management;
3. Must have at least five years experience working in senior post in an organization focused on management of activities related to natural resources and environment;
4. Demonstrated ability to analyse problems and develop solutions, initiatives and drive to achieve good results;
5. Must have experience working on donor funded and multi-stakeholder projects involving the central and local governments, donor(s), civil society organisations and rural communities;
6. Knowledge of financial management in NGO's is highly desirable;
7. Must have working knowledge and experience in use of computer and essential packages;
8. Must be fluent in both spoken and written Kiswahili and English;
9. Must have proven interest and commitment in conservation and natural resources management; and

2. Post Title: Chief Accountant
Grade: 5
Department: Finance Administration
Reports to the Chief Coordinator
Duty Station: Dar es Salaam

Job Responsibilities and Duties
As Head of the Finance Department, shall ensure and direct the implementation of accounting function of WCST. Shall be responsible for initiating, formulation and adherence to finance manuals on policies and procures for healthy Society finances.
1. Supervise employees of the Finance Department in their day to day activities;
2. Prepare, review and recommend improvements on accounting manuals, polices, circulars, directives and procedures;
3. Initiate recommendations, proposals, changes and improvements in work procedures in the Finance Department;
4. Ensure that accounting functions are carried out in accordance with financial and procurement regulations and in accordance to the laws of Tanzania;
5. Prepare budget and budgetary control systems and ensure that WCST programmes and projects are implemented according to the approved budget;
6. Streamline, standardize and monitor existing financial systems, policies and procedures as well as maintain costing and control systems;
7. Ensure timely, consistent and accurate budgeting and financial reporting internally and to the donors;
8. Ensure high standards of book keeping, financial accounting, procurement and assets management;
9. Formulate and ensure that financial management plans are developed, implemented and monitored;

4. At least seven years work experience, five of which must be at senior financial management position in an organization with medium to high financial turnover;
5. Demonstrated ability to analyse problems and develop solutions, initiative and drive to achieve good results in the finance department;

Job Responsibilities and Duties
Working under the overall supervision of the Chief Coordinator to pursue the Mission and Vision of the Society and Specifically as the Conservation Education Manager and Head of the Conservation and Fund Raising Department, shall:-
1. Design, promote and disseminate conservation/environmental awareness information at all levels of the general public;
2. Develop and implement fund raising strategy, programmes and activities to mobilize funds for implementing conservation plans of the Society;
3. Formulate conservation awareness raising programmes for the Society that focus on behavioural change through Communication, Education, Practice and Attitude (CEPA);
4. Explore and develop ways of stimulating conservation of natural resources by working with other conservation groups like wildlife clubs in schools, local communities and with other NGOs.
5. Infuse project outcomes that enhance conservation education such as Education for Sustainable Development;
6. Undertake advocacy work with the aim of raising awareness of conservation work being carried out by the Society;
7. Design and produce environmental education and public awareness materials.
8. Ensure the proper functioning of the Society's Library;

Job Responsibilities and Duties
Working under the overall supervision of the Chief Coordinator to pursue the Mission and Vision of the Society and Specifically the office of Chief Coordinator as overall responsible for office management of the Society shall:-
1. Ensure that the office facilities are maintained in good and tidy conditions at all the time;
2. Perform secretarial services including typing, photocopying and other office duties in the WCST office as will be directed by authorized persons;
3. Act as an Administrative Assistant to the Chief Coordinator, in situations where the latter may need assistance;
4. Undertake duties of a receptionist to guests of the Society and any other activities which she/he might be required to assist in the smooth running of the WCST Office in Dar Es Salaam;
5. Arrange transport and travel logistics to officers and officials of the Society;

Reports to the Deputy Chief Coordinator
Duty Station: Morogoro
Job Responsibilities and Duties
Working under the overall supervision of the Deputy Chief Coordinator, to pursue the Society's Mission, Vision and Specifically the Project Manager shall:-
1. Establish and manage a tree planting programme which shall involve communities in raising tree seedlings using community managed nurseries in the project area;
2. Organize and facilitate rural communities in the project area to establish income generating activities and formation of SACCOs and VICOBA/COCOBA;
3. Timely produce monthly, quarterly and annual progress reports as will be requested by WCST and the donor of the respective project and Uluguru Nature Reserve;
4. Ensure that all activities undertaken through this project on habitats and species in the project are in line with the MoU entered between WCST and Uluguru Nature Reserve (UNR) and other guidelines issued by Tanzania Forest Service (TFS) and in accordance with the laws, regulations/guidelines and the Forest Policy.
5. Maintain proper and accurate accounting transactions of project funds with the banks and auditors for the smooth running of the project operations. This will include adherence to financial and procurement procedures;
6. Prepare annual budget and work plans and timely submit them to the Deputy Chief Coordinator; and
7. Perform any other relevant duties as assigned by Deputy Chief Coordinator.

6 Post Title: Project Assistant
Grade: 3
Department: Conservation project development and management
Reports to Birdlife Officer.
Duty Station: Dar es Salaam

Job Responsibilities and Duties
Working under the overall supervision of the BirdLife Officer, to pursue the Society's Mission, Vision and Specifically the Consolidating Biodiversity Data and Information Project Assistant shall:-
1. Provide a detailed work plan and budget for project execution and delivery of outputs in Tanzania;
2. Convene and facilitate stakeholders meeting(s) to raise profile of project and conduct biodiversity information needs assessment;
3. Gather relevant biodiversity data from a wide range of sources in Tanzania based on the set indicators and baseline status;
4. Ensure data is delivered from WCST for any one of two species that are consistently monitored in the Eastern Arc and Coastal Forests (EACF);
5. Upload data into various databases, including a project-specific spreadsheet, World Biodiversity Database (WBDB), Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) outcomes databases and relevant national databases in Tanzania;
6. Provide gathered data to BirdLife Africa Partnership Secretariat for production of the EACF biodiversity status and trends reports;
7. Produce communication materials including scientific articles arising from the project;
8. Promote the project and its outcomes nationally and reinforce the project's linkages with other national biodiversity monitoring systems in the region;
9. Take the lead in national EACF-related policy and advocacy activities, including highlighting emerging biodiversity threats and production of policy briefs;

  1. Undertake effective project reporting by submitting timely and quality technical and financial reports (monthly quarterly and annual) in accordance to the BirdLife/WCST contract; and
  2. Perform any other relevant duties as assigned by BirdLife Officer.

Grade 4:
Department: Conservation project development and management
Reports to Deputy Chief Coordinator
Duty Station: Kisarawe

Job Responsibilities and Duties
Working under the overall supervision of the Deputy Chief Coordinator to pursue the Society's Mission, Vision and Specifically the Project Officer shall:
1 provide a detailed work plan and budget for project execution and delivery in line with project outputs;
2 convene and facilitate stakeholders meetings, workshops, cultural groups to raise profile of the project in Kisarawe district;
3 work closely with other NGOs/CBOs working in the district and collaborating with Mama Misitu Campaign (MMC) project teams and other implementing partners
4 design, promote and disseminate forest conservation and environment awareness information at all levels of the general public, schools, groups and other stakeholders in the project area in collaboration with MMC implementing partners;
5 formulate forest conservation awareness raising activities which focus on behavioural change through Communication, Education, Practice and Attitude (CEPA);
6 facilitate capacity development of communities to understand the value of forests in their district and their rights for use; and
7 Perform any other relevant duties as assigned by Deputy Chief Coordinator.

8 Post Title: Motor vehicle Driver
Grade: 2
Department: Finance and Administration
Reports to the Project Manager

Job Responsibilities
Working under the overall supervision of the Project Manager, to pursue the Society's Mission, Vision and Specifically the Motor Vehicle Manager shall:-
1. Ensure safe drive of project vehicles as assigned to him/her by the Project Managers;
2. Take good care of project motor vehicles, equipment and tools;
3. Advise the project Manager on the timely service and maintenance of vehicles;
4. Ensure that logbooks are in effective use and are duly signed by the officer in charge of the safari every time the vehicle leaves the project office;
5. Observe all traffic and road safety regulations, guidelines and laws of Tanzania.
6. Ensure that motor vehicles are road worthy and have valid insurance certificates and road licences;
7. Ensure that project vehicles do not carry illegal luggage or cargo; and

Job Responsibilities and Duties
Working under the overall supervision of the BirdLife Officer, to pursue the Society's Mission, Vision and Specifically the Consolidating Biodiversity Data and Information Project Assistant shall:-
1. Provide a detailed work plan and budget for project execution and delivery of outputs in Tanzania;
2. Convene and facilitate stakeholders meeting(s) to raise profile of project and conduct biodiversity information needs assessment;
3. Gather relevant biodiversity data from a wide range of sources in Tanzania based on the set indicators and baseline status;
4. Ensure data is delivered from WCST for any one of two species that are consistently monitored in the Eastern Arc and Coastal Forests (EACF);
5. Upload data into various databases, including a project-specific spreadsheet, World Biodiversity Database (WBDB), Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) outcomes databases and relevant national databases in Tanzania;
6. Provide gathered data to BirdLife Africa Partnership Secretariat for production of the EACF biodiversity status and trends reports;
7. Produce communication materials including scientific articles arising from the project;
8. Promote the project and its outcomes nationally and reinforce the project's linkages with other national biodiversity monitoring systems in the region;
9. Take the lead in national EACF-related policy and advocacy activities, including highlighting emerging biodiversity threats and production of policy briefs;

  1. Undertake effective project reporting by submitting timely and quality technical and financial reports (monthly quarterly and annual) in accordance to the BirdLife/WCST contract; and
  2. Perform any other relevant duties as assigned by BirdLife Officer.

Key Qualification and Experience

1. Must have at least a B.Sc. in Wildlife Management, Forestry, Environmental Science and any other relevant qualification from recognised universities;
2. Strong computer literacy with knowledge and use of statistical packages;
3. At least four years working experience in biodiversity conservation projects and experience in database, spreadsheets are essential;
4. Demonstrated ability to organise and facilitate workshops, seminars and meetings; and
5. Scientific publications are added advantages.

7 Post: Project Officer
Grade 4:
Department: Conservation project development and management
Reports to Deputy Chief Coordinator
Duty Station: Kisarawe

Job Responsibilities and Duties
Working under the overall supervision of the Deputy Chief Coordinator to pursue the Society's Mission, Vision and Specifically the Project Officer shall:
1 provide a detailed work plan and budget for project execution and delivery in line with project outputs;
2 convene and facilitate stakeholders meetings, workshops, cultural groups to raise profile of the project in Kisarawe district;
3 work closely with other NGOs/CBOs working in the district and collaborating with Mama Misitu Campaign (MMC) project teams and other implementing partners
4 design, promote and disseminate forest conservation and environment awareness information at all levels of the general public, schools, groups and other stakeholders in the project area in collaboration with MMC implementing partners;
5 formulate forest conservation awareness raising activities which focus on behavioural change through Communication, Education, Practice and Attitude (CEPA);
6 facilitate capacity development of communities to understand the value of forests in their district and their rights for use; and
7 Perform any other relevant duties as assigned by Deputy Chief Coordinator.

Key Qualification and Experience

1. Must have at least a B.Sc./B.A. in, Forestry, Environmental Science, Community Development and any other relevant qualification from recognised universities;
2. computer literacy with knowledge and use in word and excel;
3. at least two years working experience in rural development, participatory forest management and community training and mobilization;
4. demonstrated ability to organise and facilitate workshops, seminars and meetings;
5. demonstrated knowledge and skills in advocacy work in rural communities; and
6. must be fluent in both spoken and written Kiswahili and English.

8 Post Title: Motor vehicle Driver
Grade: 2
Department: Finance and Administration
Reports to the Project Manager
Work station: Kisarawe

Job Responsibilities
Working under the overall supervision of the Project Manager, to pursue the Society's Mission, Vision and Specifically the Motor Vehicle Manager shall:-
1. Ensure safe drive of project vehicles as assigned to him/her by the Project Managers;
2. Take good care of project motor vehicles, equipment and tools;
3. Advise the project Manager on the timely service and maintenance of vehicles;
4. Ensure that logbooks are in effective use and are duly signed by the officer in charge of the safari every time the vehicle leaves the project office;
5. Observe all traffic and road safety regulations, guidelines and laws of Tanzania.
6. Ensure that motor vehicles are road worthy and have valid insurance certificates and road licences;
7. Ensure that project vehicles do not carry illegal luggage or cargo; and
8. Perform any other relevant duties as assigned by Project Manager.

1.1 Key Qualification and Experience

1. Must have valid Driving Licence class C;
2. At least five years working experience in a public or private organisation that operates in rural areas;
3. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in vehicle maintenance or basic certificate in mechanics is essential;
4. Secondary school certificate is essential;
5. Training from the National Institute of Transport is an added advantage; and
6. Must be fluent in both spoken and written Kiswahili and basic level spoken and written English.
