Ever since the regime of Kenyatta senior the so called historical friendship between Kenya and Tanzania is a forced marriage.
With Capitalism in Kenya and Ujamaa in Tanzania the social gap widened, leading to the collapse of the defunct East African Community.
With good infrastructure, Kenya took advantage of Tanzania to boost Tourism industry to replace tea and coffee as the prices drastically fell in the world market. For years Kenya, knowingly, consciously and purposely lied to the world that mountain Kilimanjaro was in Kenya. For sure the revenue from Kilimanjaro benefited more Kenya than Tanzania.
Kenya tried even to construct artificial dams in Masai Mara to divert the natural movement of wildebeests.
Tanzania has more tourist attractions than Kenya in attractions and coverage.
The improvement of road networks in Tanzania is a threat to Kenyan economy.
The economic growth in Tanzania is doubling while Kenya 's is stagnant. With the control of Tanzanite mining and markets it added salt to the injury on Kenyan economy.
The latent anger of Kenya to Tanzania is multi faced issue. The peace and and stability in Tanzania is a threat to Kenyan politics rooted on tribalism. 75% of Kenyan economy is controlled by 4% of the population. This 4% has political and economic powers. They control banks and media.
Back to your question, the background explained why the media of Kenya painted negative image of Tanzania on human rights to the World Bank. I feel it in the class as my Kenyan classmates are always against whatever our government is doing. God bless Tanzania! God bless Africa. J chidwa 💪
