The Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan could be the next two states to become members of the East African Community, EAC’s secretariat in Arusha has revealed.

Ambassador Juma Volter Mwapachu, the Secretary General for the EAC stated during a press conference last week that DRC and Sudan have expressed interest in boosting the community membership from the current five to seven states.
Mr Mwapachu explained that the joining of both Sudan and DRC could become a reality within the second decade journey of the regional cooperation set to start with the establishment of common market in January 2010.
“DRC has discovered that it is more inclined towards the East, relying on both Mombasa and Dar-Es-salaam harbors for its external trade while most of the Sudan economic and social deals face south towards Kenya, eventually these two states will become part of EAC,” Mwapachu said.

The East African Community which sailed on November 30, 1999 with the establishment of the
EAC treaty, then with only Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda as members, marks its first decade
anniversary this week having added Rwanda and Burundi along the ten-year-long journey.

Speaking in Nairobi earlier on the he Head of Mission of the Government of SouthernSudan to Kenya, AmbassadorJohnAndrugaDuku was quoted by the media expressing his views that even if it was not the whole of Sudan then Southern Sudan which is closest to East Africa can be invited into the community as an observer state.
Mr Duku added that other East African states will benefit from the presence of oil in Sudan while they can also sell industrial goods to the country.

Sudan which is the largest state in both Africa and Arab world and DR of Congo the third largest country (by area) in the continent will together make East Africa the
biggest regional community in the world. The integration of the two countries will also boost EAC population from the current 120 million to over 230 million.

Hivi vi nchi ni virgin, hivyo sisi ndo tuta ifaidi. Vita vya muda mrefu vimefanya wacongo na wasudan wasiende shule, hawajui kufanya biashara, hawana lolote, hivyo tutaenda kushindana na Wachina kuvuna mali zao, come in DRC and Sudan

Sudan kwanza wamkamate Bashir ashitakiwe!. Sudan itakuja kuvuruga tu! Watulie kwanza. DRC twaweza kuwafikiria!.

Ila kweli..South Sudan..sema bado wapo 20 yers back..ukilinganganisha na member states wengine!

Jamani let's be careful before we let anybody in. Siyo tu kwa sababu watu wameomba basi waruhusiwe. Cooperation is good but some countries come with a lot of baggage.

now sice there are countries with weak economies that tanzanians can advantage of, every tanzanian want to join with them but when kenyans are trying to do the same to tanzanians then somehow that is not fair.

nyinyi watanzania ni kigeugeu sana.

its a dog eat dog world. kenyans are coming to tanzania to exploit the tanzanian economy because the tanzanians are incapable of exploiting their own economy.

tanzanians will exploit the weaker economies of other countries. thats the way things are.

its a dog eat dog world and kenyans are coming to tanzania.

tanzanians are a bunch of hypocrites and the responses on this thread prove it.

oh and that would be great news for kenya. more market for kenyans to exploit. yes they should come and join.

Kenya is going to loose trust me ..in a long run

kenya is never going to lose to tanzania because of one simple fact.

Kenyans THRIVE in competition while tanzanians try to SURIVIVE in competition. that is why tanzania will never repel south african companies from their country while in kenya, kenyan businesses have successifully competed against the south africans and sometimes kenyan businesses have won. we have even followed the south africans into other countries and into their own country to try and compete with them from there. kenyans welcome competition unlike tanzanians they run away from competition. THRIVE in the heat of the game.

my friend be a man and stop being emotional. understand the reality, accept it and do something about it. quit wishing that kenya will one day lose its economic superiority to tanzania instead do something about it.

companies gani? nakumatt is kenyan owned has held off shoprite from investing in kenya, safaricom successifully repelled vodacom from kenya(at the time the majority shareholder in safaricom was the kenyan govt) olympia capital holdings successifully repelled a south african company from investing in it and olympia capital went and invested in south africa. kenya airways(the pride of africa) competes with SA in africa. kenol/kobil is still competing with engen, actually kenol/kobil is doing better since the competion began, now they even have branches in ZAMBIA!!!! equity bank and kenya commercial bank are successifully competing witht the big multinational banks in kenya. and yes i left out the EABL vs SAB fight that EABL won. its thriving in the heat of the competition(that is what kenyans do) while the tanzanians melt like plastic. thats why it will take half a century before tanzania economy is on equal footing with kenya.

show me the tanzanian list of tanzanian owned companies that have successifully competed with SA companies. i am wating
