Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chief Executive Ezra Chiloba has warned that delays in the deciding fate of nine officials will affect the 2017 elections.
Mr Chiloba said given the current situation, the earliest time a new team of commissioners can take office is January 2017, seven months to the elections.

"We're 70 days late (compared to the appointment of the previous team) and we have not yet even agreed whether the commissioners should go, the appointment of the new , (or) whether commissioners will work full time or part time. We are in a worse situation today than we were in 2011," he said.
He said the IEBC needs clarity on the future of its commissioners as the clock ticks towards the August 2017 elections.

Mr Chiloba was speaking during a public lecture at Strathmore University on Tuesday.
