Here's another reason to worship David Beckham's flawless bod – the muscled soccer star just got himself a Jesus tattoo.

Adding to his inky collection, it's an image of a wounded Christ sitting dejectedly, on his way to his crucifixion. Taken from a picture by Catholic artist Matthew R. Brooks, the tat is titled "The Man of Sorrows," referring to an Old Testament verse that many Christians see as predicting the Messiah.

"He is despised and rejected of men, a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief," reads the verse from Isaiah 53:3.

"He was wounded for our transgressions... and with His stripes we are healed."

Deep stuff for the attention-grabbing midfielder, who revealed the tattoo after tearing off his shirt when his current team AC Milan beat Juventus 3-0 in Turin, Italy.

It's not the first Christian tattoo for the 34-year-old, who also has a crucifix on his neck, and two guardian angels on his back.

The father of three has 17 tattoos in total, including his sons' names, his wife Victoria's name in Sanskrit on his forearm and a ring of ten roses said to be in tribute of the first decade of their marriage.

The former Spice Girl has six or seven herself, most celebrating her husband and children.

Beckham's latest is rumoured to be in tribute to his grandfather, who died last year.
