About the Danish Refugee Council

Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is an international non-governmental organization that provides assistance and promotes durable solutions for refugees and internally displaced people, on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights.

Danish Refugee Councilis a humanitarian actor in Tanzania working in Nduta and Mtendeli camps. DRC work in the sectors of camp management, community services and shelter/ small infrastructure in those two locations. Starting in September 2016, DRC is working to support a local partner organization—Tanzania Water, Environment, and Sanitation (TWESA)with Camp Management capacity building in Nyarugusu camp.

About TWESA

TWESA is a Tanzanian non-governmental organization that works to relieve the suffering of disaster victims in emergencies and of poor communities in needy areas, through development and implementation of improved and protected water supply, environmental sanitation and hygiene.

TWESA focuses on sustainable and community-based solutions across Tanzania. In addition to their regular WASH services, TWESA provides additional emergency assistance in the refugee camps of Western Tanzania, including NFIs, food, shelter and reception. TWESA is the Camp Management Agency in Nyarugusu camp and will be partnering with DRC in this sector.

DRC and TWESA Partnership

DRC and TWESA will be working in partnership with DRC providing technical and operational capacity building in camp management to TWESA and with TWESA sharing their historical knowledge of the context in Western Tanzania and lessons learned in local Camp Management.

In order to fulfill TWESAs staffing needs, DRC and TWESA will jointly conduct hiring for the following positions for 10 Tanzanian nationals, based in Nyarugusucamp.DRC will cover the salary of these staff on the same salary scale as TWESA staff (in accordance with UNHCR salary scale). They will be seconded to TWESA and will receive the same training from DRC as all other TWESA staff. Seconded staff will report to and be directly supervised by TWESA management.

Position Details

Data Entry Clerk,under the direct management and supervision of aCamp Manager, will lead the database management for data and information gathered from Twesa camp management program in Nyarugusu camp.

Tasks and responsibilities of the position

Provide technical support in database design to the teamEnter data provided into the appropriate softwareData collection and participating with technical support to ensure program databases can be maintained up to date:Needs assessments for new or follow-on programmingBaseline assessmentsRegular program monitoringPost-distribution monitoringMid-term evaluationsFinal evaluationsHousehold surveys (sample and comprehensive)Focus group discussionsCase studiesKey informant interviews

Assist in data collection and monitoring, as directed by the Camp ManagerProvide data for Twes’s monthly reports and various donor reports.Analyze data for trends and share them with Twesa’s managers; in collaboration with program staff, make recommendations based on research findings.Assess whether programs are reaching their targets and inform appropriate program staff when targets are not being metAssist in the production of reports and presentations for Twesa staff, donors, local stakeholders and other agencies.Any other duties as requested by Manager.

Requirements

§ Post-secondary graduate degree in related field

§ Experience in data management

§Excellent computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, ODK platforms, databases);

§ Proficiency in using different functions and tools in Microsoft Excel a must

§ Previous experience with different data collection methods

§Previous experience working with refugees or other vulnerable populations;

§ Excellent interpersonal skills, creativity and flexibility;

§Flexibility in working hours when needed;

§Comfortable in a multi-cultural environment, flexible and able to handle pressure wellability to engage with community members in an open manner, maintain confidentiality and respect;

§Ability to communicate and write reports in English;

§Language ability in Kiha, Kirundi or French considered and advantage

Terms of Employment:

Salary and conditions in accordance with UNHCR Tanzania’s salary scale for IP National Staff (aligned with that of other TWESA staff). Conditions in accordance with DRC’s Terms of Employment for National Staff in Tanzania and conditions of TWESA staff.

Duration of employment: 5 months with possible extension based on performance and funding availability.
