Nyerere's death exposed Tanzanians to the dangers of building a state around one man, no matter how competent. What Mwalimu did was leaving us with a 500 pound gorilla that no one dared to approach and a a powerful but ineffectual machine that none but he could steer. So far since his departure/death, all the successive CCM Governments have proved that the the yes-men with whom Nyerere surrounded himself cannot exert control alone. Frustrated ones went to to form CCM clones (CHADEMA, CUF et al), where they continue with their ''BIG MAN'' tendencies that they learned from that old dinosaur aka CCM.
