China passenger train hits 300 mph, breaks record

A Chinese passenger train hit a record speed of 302 miles per hour (486 kilometers per hour) Friday during a test run of a yet-to-be opened link between Beijing and Shanghai, state media said.
The Xinhua News Agency said it was the fastest speed recorded by an unmodified conventional commercial train. Other types of trains in other countries have traveled faster.
A specially modified French TGV train reached 357.2 mph (574.8 kph) during a 2007 test, while a Japanese magnetically levitated train sped to 361 mph (581 kph) in 2003.
State television footage showed the sleek white train whipping past green farm fields in eastern China. It reached the top speed on a segment of the 824-mile (1,318-kilometer) -long line between Zaozhuang city in Shandong province and Bengbu city in Anhui province, Xinhua said.
The line is due to open in 2012 and will halve the current travel time between the capital Beijing and Shanghai to five hours.

The project costs $32.5 billion and is part of a massive government effort to link many of China's cities by high-speed rail and reduce overcrowding on heavily used lines.
China already has the world's longest high-speed rail network, and it plans to cover 8,125 miles (13,000 kilometers) by 2012 and 10,000 miles (16,000 kilometers) by 2020.
The drive to develop high-speed rail technology rivals China's space program in terms of national pride and importance. Railway officials say they want to reach speeds over 500 kph (312 mph).

In Beijing the International Union of Railways and China's Ministry of Railways co-hosted the 7th World Congress on High Speed Rail, a four-day conference and international trade show for the fast train industry.
Two year's ago at the last Congress in Amsterdam, China had only just started building railways for superfast trains.
That was when the International Union of Railways decided to stage this year's event in Beijing; for the first time outside of Europe.
Superfast railway lines offer quicker journeys than planes for distances of up to about 1,300 kilometres, and they're greener to boot.
They transform economies by shortening commuting times, boosting tourism and freeing up conventional lines to carry up to seven times as much freight. By most measures China is now the world's leader in the industry.
With nearly 7,000 kilometers of track, China already has the world's largest high-speed rail network, and it's aiming to more than double its total to 16,000 kilometers by the year 2020. In ten years time, nearly every city in the country with more than half a million people should be serviced by trains traveling at speeds of up to 380 kilometers per hour.
Chinese companies have won orders to build high-speed railways in Argentina, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela. A Chinese train has recently set the world speed record for an unmodified conventional commercial train when it hit 486 kilometers per hour on a test run on the new Beijing to Shanghai line, which is due to open next year.
The maker of the superfast train was the CSR Corporation. On December 7 it entered a joint venture with America's General Electric to build high-speed networks in the US, with an initial focus on the states of Florida and California.

NI bora wao wanaosaidiwa wakasaidika na walau maendeleo yakaonekana, kuliko sisi ambao tunasaidiwa halafu tunaiba hata huo msaada na bado tunaendelea kuomba ili tuzidi kuiba zaidi...!

Baaado sana kwa kulinganisha na nchi gani? za kiafrika ambapo mtu unakaa jijini halalfu unanunua maji kwenye vidumu na huku unagawiwa umeme? Au kwa kulinganisha na Marekani? Kama ni kwa kulinganisha na Marekani, hata ujerumani na Japan bado sana kuifikia Marekani. Nafikiri tukubali kujifunza kutoka kwa wenzetu wanapofanya mambo mazuri ya kimaendeleo.
