POSITION OVERVIEW
Provide support to NMM to ensure that Safety Objectives are aligned with the business plans and that all Safety Programs are implemented in accordance with Barrick’s Standards.

Reports to: Safety and Health Superintendent
Work Schedule: Rotation Status (8 weeks on, 4 weeks off)

KEY RESULT AREAS / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Establish short term programs, and strategies using information obtained from daily visits and daily incident statistics to create a safe working environment.
  • Ensure smooth running of the North Mara safety management system utilizing own initiative and knowledge.
  • Advise Management, Supervisors and Health and Safety Committees on the development and implementation of the various aspects of safety programs / systems and any other matters pertaining to the health and safety of workers.
  • Develop budgets to ensure Safety objectives can be met
  • Conduct appropriate workplace inspections.
  • Conduct studies and projects aimed at reducing risks or losses.
  • Assist Management in the identification and control of potential major risk exposures using information obtained from daily safety tours visits.
  • Conduct appropriate on –the- job training and coaching and give guidance, during safety tours.
  • Identify safety and training needs during safety tours utilizing own training knowledge, and advise on the upgrading of training programs and courses to ensure that all employees are properly trained to perform their tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Assist in developing, and revision off safe work procedures.
  • Provides training to all employees/ contractors on the correct usage of fire hydrants, hoses and extinguishers.
  • Inspects and ensures the safe aircraft movement during landing and takeoff following established safety procedures.
  • Ensure that detailed accident investigations are conducted and that the appropriate remedial actions are instituted in compliance with statutory legislation. Co-ordinate the facilitation of, and participate in, Tap Root investigations as required to ensure that a high quality of investigation and outcomes is achieved
  • Ensure the courageous leadership and visible leadership programs are implemented and maintained
PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL DETAILS
· Formal qualification in Safety/Risk Management or relevant experience
· Demonstrated coaching, facilitation and mentoring skills
· Demonstrated experience in Emergency Response, fire and rescue
· Excellent verbal and written communication skillls
· Excellent computer skills – MS Word, Excel and Power Point
· Minimum of 10 years industry/ mining experience with at least 2 years in a safety role or minimum of 2 years in a leadership/supervisory position.
· Decisive and resourceful
· Strong influencing skills
· Current Tanzania valid driving licence
