CCM breathes fire on Chadema

The ruling Chama cha Mapinduzi has warned opposition leaders to stop mudslinging politics or risk having their misdeeds exposed to the public.
In a separate press statement, CHADEMA was singled out for attack.
Speaking to reporters yesterday in Dodoma, CCM Secretary General Yusuf Makamba said: ?Tell opposition leaders not to throw stones at CCM, because they are living in glass houses, if we decide to hit back they will suffer.?
Makamba was responding to corruption allegations levelled against members of the ruling party by some opposition leaders.
?We decided to keep quiet not because we are incapable of responding but because CCM is a serious party with a strong and sensible leadership,? he said.
He added: ?If you are living in a glass house, you should not throw stones. Tell the opposition that if we hit back, we will completely destroy their glass houses and leave them with no members.?
Makamba said all opposition leaders once served in the government or in some state run institutions. He gave the example of Augustine Mrema, the chairman of Tanzania Labour Party, who once served as the minister for home affairs.
He said CCM knew a lot of their misdeeds. Makamba called on opposition leaders to stop politics of mudslinging lest they become unpopular before the eyes of members of the public.
?By keeping quiet, we should not be taken for granted.
We know a lot about them. Others were religious leaders-priests, sheikhs-we know what they did during their leadership. That is why they joined politics and abandoned their religious posts,? Makamba said, without mentioning names.
Makamba however, said that if the opposition would continue accusing CCM and its government of what he called baseless accusations, the ruling party would not sit back.
Leaders of opposition parties have been accusing senior government officials of grand corruption and mismanagement of public funds.
They recently issued what they called a list of shame, singling out some government officials they claimed were involved in grand corruption practices.
They also associated the ruling Chama cha Mapinduzi with a private company they accused of doing fishy dealings.
Makamba however, refuted the claims as baseless, saying his party had never associated itself with any private companies in undertaking some fishy deals.
Meanwhile campaigns for CCM members who are vying for the party?s National Executive Committee posts have gained momentum as contestants distribute leaflets bearing their CVs to people, some of whom are not even party members.
Dodoma town has been given a facelift ready for the party?s national congress to be held on Saturday and Sunday this weekend.
Street lights have been installed on major roads in Dodoma, although some still have potholes.
The party?s national congress will endorse the name of the party?s vice chairman for Tanzania Mainland.
The post is now being held by veteran politician John Samwel Malecela. It is not known yet as to who may succeed Malecela.
Names of potential candidates are already being mentioned, including Malecela himself, former Prime Minister Frederick Sumaye and current Prime Minister Edward Lowassa.
