Salaam, Naomba kuwasilisha makala hii nzuri inayosambazwa kwenye email ili wana JF wenzangu muisome na kutafakari maneno ya busara sana ya Baba wa Taifa, Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere. MY TAKE: It is ironic that 6 years after this book was published, Nyerere died of leukaemia, a type of cancer of the blood. Under Jakaya Kikwete's reign, the leadership cancer within the ruling CCM party that Mwalimu talked about has reached Stage IV, which is the most deadly form of the condition. Being the humble/honest man he was, If Nyerere was alive today, he would have publicly declared that CHADEMA is the party to oust CCM from power. CCM has become too bureaucratic and too corrupt. With the exception of a few bad apples (less than 3) in CHADEMA's top leadership hierarchy with questionable ethical standards, CHADEMA has the best pool of leaders in any political party in Tanzania. In my opinion, Nyerere would have given his seal of approval for Dr. Willibrod Slaa to become Tanzania's president. The book was published in 1993, the same year that CHADEMA got it's permanent registration, so Nyerere did not have ample opportunity to assess the party as a credible alternative to CCM. Indeed, if I'm not mistaken, Dr. Wilibrod Slaa himself was a CCM member in 1993. Nyerere was quoted saying later after his book was published that CHADEMA has "very good" policies. And he famously noted that the real opposition in Tanzania would emerge from within CCM itself. Dr. Slaa was initially a CCM member before joining CHADEMA, so Nyerere was absolutely right on this one. If we appoint an independent electoral commission, amend the unconstitutional law that prohibits any legal challenge on the results of presidential elections, register to vote, turn out to vote in 2015, and stay vigilant against vote rigging, we shall banish this deadly leadership cancer that is eating away at our beautiful country and replace it with new people-centred leadership. For, it was Mwalimu who once said: "It can be done, play your part."
