Jos, Dec. 2, 2020 A 45-man contingent of Plateau United FC of Jos has departed for Dar Es Salaam to face Simba SC of Tanzania.

This is for the return leg of the first round of the preliminary fixtures of the CAF Champions League on Sunday.

Mr Albert Dakup, the club’s Media Officer disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Jos.

According to Dakup, the contingent included 20 players , technical crew, management and other key stakeholders.

He added that the contingent was led by the Plateau Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr Victor Lapang.

“The team will begin their journey from Abuja where they are expected to board a flight to Lagos from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

“From Lagos the team will take another flight to Tanzania, through Addis Ababa on an Ethiopian airline,” he said.

Dakup said notable among the players that made the trip is its captain , Golbe Elisha, who did not feature in the first match and Akila Jesse in addition to 17 other players that played the first leg.

He, however, said that Bernard Ovoke failed to make the trip due to an undisclosed illness while goalkeeper Chinedu Anozie is still out due to a finger injury he sustained some weeks back.

The Lalong boys who lost the first leg tie 1-0 in Jos, will have an uphill task in overturning the deficit against the Simba side who are the Tanzanian premier league Champions.

Naija247news reports that the team need at least a two- goal victory without conceding any to overturn the result and qualify for the second round of the preliminary fixtures.

The winner of the tie over two legs will face either Platinum Stars of South Africa or Costa Du Sol of Angola.

Plateau United sacks player over misconduct

By Polycarp Auta

Jos, Dec. 2, 2020 The management of Plateau United FC of Jos has sacked Aliyu Salawudeen, one of its new signings, over gross misconduct, Mr Albert Dakup, the club’s Media Officer said in a statement on Wednesday in Jos.

Dakup said Salawudeen’s contract was terminated at one of the team’s morning training sessions due to indiscipline and insubordination.

“The player refused to obey a simple instruction from one of our coaches, this did not go down well with Abdu Maikaba, the head coach.

“This is not the first time the player is indulging in this act of indiscipline and unfortunately for him this time around, the head coach saw his disrespectful action toward his assistants and recommended his sack,” Dakup said

The media officer said the decision to terminate Salawudeen’s contract was taken after the training session, insisting that the head coach had always maintained that there was no room for indiscipline in his team.

Naija247news reports that the dismissed player joined the club this season from Emmanuel Amuneke Academy , Lagos, after he featured for the national under-20 team in last season’s World Youth Championship

WE CAN WIN IT AWAY FROM HOME

Following their preliminary round defeats over the weekend, Plateau United and Kano Pillars have vowed to overturn the poor results and qualify for the first round of the CAF competitions.

On Sunday, Simba SC of Tanzania shocked NPFL champions, Plateau United 1-0 in Jos in the first leg of the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.

However, immediately after the disappointing performance by Plateau United, Coach Abdul Maikaba said "Good game against Simba SC. They play good football, but they are not invincible. They are just a few inches ahead of us because they've played 11 league games before now.

"We have done it before. I believe we can do it again by winning away from home.
