Ronaldo ready to realise his 'dream' move to Madrid

Daniel Taylor The Guardian,
Wednesday June 4 2008

The double footballer of the year is keen to play at the Bernabeu.

Cristiano Ronaldo appears to have made up his mind to leave Manchester United and fulfil his "dream" of joining Real Madrid. The Portugal international has informed his agent, Jorge Mendes, that he wants to play in Spain and his decision has already been outlined to Madrid, encouraging them to step up their attempts to prise him from Old Trafford.

Ronaldo is being offered a salary in the region of £150,000 a week after tax and has told his closest associates that the financial rewards, as well as the opportunity to play for a club of Madrid's prestige, are too good to turn down.

The double footballer of the year had stated on Saturday night that he would announce his decision "in two or three days" but journalists arriving at Portugal's Euro 2008 training base yesterday were informed that he would not speak to the media until Friday at the earliest. Instead, one of his associates briefed the Portuguese journalists that Ronaldo, as suspected, was hoping United would relent on their refusal to entertain the idea of negotiating a world-record transfer.

Relations between the two clubs have been severely strained and the latest developments will cause intense dismay to Sir Alex Ferguson, who has been increasingly vocal in his criticism of Madrid. There is also a growing sense of foreboding about Ronaldo's motives, specifically the manner in which he has repeatedly adapted his line in a string of media interviews.

Ferguson had wanted the player to hold a press conference, or, at the very least, put out a statement, committing himself to the club, but Ronaldo has made it clear he plans to do nothing of the kind.

Mendes is believed to be in almost daily contact with Madrid and looking at ways to soften United's resistance. Whether that is possible remains to be seen as United have threatened to report the Spanish champions to Fifa and Ferguson has said he would rather let Ronaldo rot in the reserves than sanction the deal.

Contrary to reports, Ferguson has no plans to fly to Portugal, preferring to go on holiday to France and leave the matter to his chief executive, David Gill.

At the same time, Gill will try to convince Aaron Ramsey, the 17-year-old Cardiff City midfielder, to choose United ahead or Arsenal after both clubs yesterday had £5m offers accepted.

United were the first to meet Cardiff's requirements and issued a statement describing themselves as "delighted" to have agreed the deal only for it to emerge that Arsenal had matched their offer. Liverpool had also bid £5m but Cardiff turned them down because of the way the deal was structured. "We can confirm that the club has received formal bids from three Premier League teams for Aaron Ramsey," a statement from Cardiff read. "One of these is Manchester United though at this stage we can confirm that no deal has been done."

CRISTIANO RONALDO has told friends: "If I don't leave Manchester United now, I certainly will in a year."

The Portugal winger and his agent Jorge Mendes are now considering their get-out strategy.

Ronaldo believes that having now won the Champions League and Premier League double it is the right time to chase his dream of joining Real Madrid.

The 23-year-old may have to concede staying at Old Trafford for one more season.

But it seems inevitable that he will leave sooner rather than later.

My heart is set on a move to Madrid, says Manchester United's Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave Manchester United for Real Madrid.

The Old Trafford winger has finally admitted to close friends in Portugal that he sees his longterm future in Spain and not with the Barclays Premier League champions.

Ronaldo knows that there are serious obstacles to overcome if he is to move this summer and that United will do everything they can to keep hold of him at least for another season.

He has also accepted that he may have to wait at least another year for his move to La Liga.

But - whether he leaves this summer or not - the fact is that the 23-year-old now has his heart set firmly on a move to Real.

It remains highly unlikely that Ronaldo will try to force a switch by officially asking for a transfer but United must now decide whether to hold their most saleable asset to his current £120,000-a-week contract or give in to Real's relentless pursuit of the player.

Last night, indications were that United's position had not changed, with manager Sir Alex Ferguson leaving for his annual break in France on the understanding that the Old Trafford board would not even consider selling the player.

Last week United threatened to report Real to UEFA for making illegal approaches to Ronaldo and chief executive David Gill has subsequently written to the Spanish club demanding that they drop their interest.

Nevertheless, United are becoming increasingly aware that Ronaldo's head has been turned and they now must face up to the grim fact that the Portugal forward wants to further his career in Spain.

Ronaldo's team of advisers have been hoping that United may bend to their demands for a new contract, something that the club has shown absolutely no intention of doing.

But even that would not persuade the player to remain at Old Trafford in the long term. The Madeira-born star feels that two league titles, an FA Cup and a Champions League title represent an adequate set of achievements in England and that he must eventually test himself in another league and in another environment.

Ronaldo is currently in Switzerland with his national team at a training camp ahead of the European Championship which begins at the weekend.

He has said already that he will make an announcement 'in the next few days' but the Portugal camp made it clear last night that they would not take any questions on their star man's future.

Spokesman Antonio Florencio said: "If it's going to (be announced during the tournament) I think it will come through his agent. This is the national team. We have no business dealing with such matters."

Portugal's opening game is against Turkey in Geneva on Saturday and Ronaldo was the centre of attention at their last public training session at their Neuchatel base last night.

The biggest cheers from the 12,000 supporters attendance were reserved for him every time he touched the ball.

Mkuu Bubu!
Kama ulivyo ona hapo juu ni stori mbili za magazeti ya Ki-UK ambazo zinakinzana kiai fulani lakini kaa ujue kuwa so far so bad aya magazeti ya ki-kiingereza they have nothing to report mkuu, team yao haipo Euro so nahisi kama vile wanasaka habari kwa udi na uvumba za kuihusu EPL kwa namna moja au nyingine ili wauze gazeti zai, team yao ishamalioza Friendly games na Tobago so what can they report?

Binafsi naamin ipo siku Ron ataondoka OT lakini sio mapema kihivyo, lets wait and see!!, afu mkuu kuondoka kwa Ron its true kuta-affect team yetu in one way or another lakini sio kivile sana kiasi cha kututisha, walikuepo akina Stam, Becks, Mkandarasi Keane, Rud van Magoli etc na still tuka heel the gap...WHY NOT RONALDO??

One Love .... One United...!!

Moderators please!

There Is Only One United In This World And That Is Manchester United

Well, Real wakifikia kidau plus kutupa hao 3 players kama walivyopropose let him go...kama SAF anavyosema No Player is bigger than the club....ukimpata Robinho na hizo hela you can always get another Ronaldo or even better.....angalia ilivyokuwa case ya Beckham naysayers walisema sana.

If he has to go let him go...Man U can do without Ronaldo, if he has to go.
Wazo la Idimi kuunganisha hili bandiko na lile la Man U 2008/09 ni muafaka kabisa...Mods, please do the needful.

He's off...

Ronaldo Unless we have all read the signs wrongly and in fact he was just doing it all along to gain a bit of attention, this weekend Cristiano Ronaldo is going to announce his wish to join Real Madrid. Of course he is: if he had no intention of courting the Spanish champions he would have stated simply and clearly a month ago that he was happy to stay at Manchester United. But he didn't because all along he has wanted to go play for the team his mum, his godfather, his agent and his Uncle Tom Cobley and all have been dreaming of him joining since he conducted his first step-over at the age of six months. For the finest player to pull on a red shirt in a generation, United was only ever a stepping stone to reach his ultimate destination. The moment the team in white came in from him, there was to be no holding him. He was off.

The intriguing thing is what happens next. If Ronaldo thinks it will just be a case of contacting his bank to send a wheelbarrow round to the Bernabeu to pick up his first wage packet, he has another think coming. Even with a promised fee of £70million, United are not going to make it easy. If they don't want to sell, they are under no obligation to do so. Alex Ferguson has already stated that he is happy to let the player "rot in the reserves" rather than let him go to Madrid. And since he is under contract for three more years that is an awful lot of rotting to do. He might be decidedly whiffy at the end of that spell.

United have seen a steady stream of players heading westwards out of Manchester to Madrid these past few years. David Beckham, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Gabriel Heinze have all headed there since 2003. But, as Ferguson has been at pains to point out, he no longer required the services of that particular trio. He was happy for them to go. Pleased to bank the cheque and move on. Ronaldo is a very different case. Not only is his skill, his panache, his bravery crucial to United's style of play (as anyone would be who scores 42 goals in a season) Ferguson will not wish to see his multitude of talents being employed for a direct rival. Which, in these Champions League dominated times, is what Madrid are, as much a direct rival to United as Liverpool, Arsenal or Manchester City. Actually, rather more than Manchester City. So the United manager will do everything he can to stand in the way of such a move. In 22 years at Old Trafford, Ferguson prides himself on never letting go a player he wanted to keep. The man has a way of getting what he wants.

So if Ronaldo is obliged to stay against his wishes what then? About ten years ago, Prince, in a bid to release himself from his long-term record contract, changed his name to some incomprehensible hieroglyphic and continually had himself photographed with the word "slave" scribbled on his knuckles. George Michael too spent an age trying to extricate himself from his deal with Sony, refusing to produce any material for them even though he was contractually obliged to do so. Can we expect the same of Ronaldo? Will he have himself pictured in the stands at Old Trafford during matches in a set of handcuffs? Will he fling the biggest sulk since Nicolas Anelka was born? Will he go on perpetual strike? In which case, what would happen if United had a terrible injury crisis, say Nani fell over his own ego in training, what then? Would Ronaldo be expected to step in (or rather step over) as cover?

It could be interesting times ahead in the court of the Lollipop King. But whatever happens, United fans need to start getting used to this unpalatable truth: unless he really is just the biggest tease on the planet and all this dallying with Madrid was just a bit of a giggle, that magnificent goal he scored in Moscow in the Champions League final was the last one Ronaldo will ever net for the club.

MADRID, June 4 (Primera Liga) - Real Madrid will not approach Cristiano Ronaldo while he is under contract at Manchester United, according to Ramon Calderon.

On a day when Barcelona were heavily linked with a move for Ronaldo in the Spanish press, Madrid president Calderon appears to have conceded defeat in his attempts to sign Ronaldo after again labelling such a move 'impossible'.

He told Marca: '(Ronaldo) is an impossible signing because his club don't want to sell him. We can't do anything if the club that owns him don't want to sell.'

Both Marca and El Mundo Deportivo state potential Barcelona presidential candidate Sandro Rosell will vow to sign Ronaldo if he is voted into power at the Catalan club.

But Calderon insisted Madrid would not risk their good relationship with United over the winger, adding: 'We would never (approach a player under contract) as this is not the policy of Real Madrid, and especially not with a club who we are such good friends with.'

Ronaldo breaks silence........

Cristiano Ronaldo has broken his silence over his future by reportedly declaring a desire to move to Real Madrid.

The transfer story of the summer gathers pace by the day but prior to speaking to Brazilian website Terra, little of note had been offered by the Manchester United winger.

Sir Alex Ferguson and United's owners, the Glazer family, are united in their stance that Ronaldo will not be allowed to quit Old Trafford but their resolve to keep him will now be further tested by the player's latest declaration.

Speaking from Portugal's training base in the Swiss city of Neuchatel, Ronaldo admitted, according to Terra, that a move to the Spanish capital appealed.

"I want to play for Real Madrid, but only if it is true they are eager to pay me and Manchester United what they have been saying they will," said Ronaldo.

"However, it does not depend on me. It is important to send a message.

"From now on I will not talk again about this until the end of the Euros. It is not worth asking me because I will not reply."

On Wednesday, Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon said he would not risk ruining his club's relationship with Manchester United by bidding for a player under contract.

However, now Ronaldo has signalled his intent for a future in Spain, it could be Madrid that make the next move.
