Two Tanzanian men were, on Wednesday, January 31, sentenced to 42 years in jail by a Bungoma court for using children living with disabilities to beg for money, which they (Tanzanian men) end up pocketing.
While giving her verdict, Webuye Resident Magistrate Nancy Barasa said the two, Madukhu Mbashani, 26, and Manywele Kwela, 23, were also found guilty of being in the country illegally.
The two were sentenced to 40 years in jail for illegal trafficking and parading of children living with disabilities. They were sentenced to another two years in prison for being in Kenya without legal documentation.
The court heard that Mbashani and Kwela were, until their recent arrest, parading two children in the streets of Bungoma to beg for money from passersby.
Police said they arrested the two after receiving a tip-off from Webuye town residents.
Confirming the incident, Bungoma East DCIO Paul Mumo urged unscrupulous ‘businessmen’ to refrain from using children living with disabilities to make money.
