A $3.5 billion project allowing exports of Ugandan oil via Tanzania will proceed after both countries held talks and met with businessmen, Radio France Internationale said, citing Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni.
The statement by Museveni comes less than a week after reports about Total SA suspending the crude export pipeline from Uganda to Tanzania following the collapse of a deal to buy a stake in Tullow Oil Plc’s fields in Uganda.
Museveni, on a two-day visit to neighboring Tanzania, met with his counterpart John Magufuli and stated that the pipeline will be completed and that the situation is under the control of the Ugandan government. He thanked Magufuli for concessions made to oil companies for the project to materialize, RFI said, quoting Museveni.
