Cement national unity, VP implores the public
VICE President Samia Suluhu Hassan yesterday appealed to Tanzanians to cement the country’s unity at this moment, not to be frightened by rumor mongering, stressing that the country was safe.

The VP issued this appeal at Msata in Tanga Region, at a stone laying ceremony for the proposed 5.3bn/- headquarters of Handeni Rural District, then proceeded to Michungwani area where she inspected an orange processing plant.

“It’s not strange for a person to fall sick. It’s quite normal for a person’s body to be indisposed and contract the flu or develop a fever… This is the time for Tanzanians to be united through prayers,” said Samia, without elaborating on the matter.

She urged Tanzanians to continue working hard, strengthen unity and uphold the country’s stability, noting further that there were a lot of rumours circulating inside and outside the country, “but this should not unsettle Tanzanians.”

“As Tanzanians, we must work together, be united and build our nation. This is high time, we, Tanzanians could concentrate on hard work.

Most of the rumours you hear don’t originate in Tanzania…they come from outside the country. I ask you to ignore them. If it’s about prayers, pray, but all in all, we should remain united and take Tanzania forward. We’re safe,” the VP declared.

VP Samia is in Tanga Region for a four-day tour, where she remarked that “President John Magufuli has also sent me here to deliver greetings to you. He has emphasized hard work for all people; he wants all of us to focus on conducting activities which bring development to our country.”

She assured the public that the promises made by the ruling party in last year’s General Election will be implemented to stimulate development in every part of the country, urging farmers in the region to utilize fully opportunities available in the sector so as to improve their livelihoods.

“District council authorities should continue setting aside enough land to attract investors from inside and outside the country to establish investment projects for the country’s development,” she said.

On power blues, Samia said that the government is working to ensure all areas in the country are connected to national grid power supply to support smooth development of investment projects.

Regional Commissioner Martine Shigella said they had received 7bn/- from the central government to construct three buildings for Handeni Urban, Handeni Rural and Bumbuli District headquarters.

VP Samia’s remarks came four days after Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa asked Tanzanians to remain calm, saying the Head of State was healthy and faring well with his daily activities.

The premier dismissed claims in various media outlets that President Magufuli was ailing and had been flown to a neighbouring country for specialized treatment.

The premier said he had spoken with the president by phone, assuring Tanzanians that he is well.

In contrast, Chadema Secretary General John Mnyika addressed a press conference on Thursday saying the opposition party was concerned on the health and whereabouts of the president, who was last seen in public on February 27.
