Tension remains high in Baringo South after at least seven people were killed in separate banditry attacks in the last 48 hours.

Four people were killed on Saturday, while one person was shot dead by suspected bandits on Sunday morning. Scores have been left injured during the spate of attacks.

Two people are being treated at the Nyahururu County Referral Hospital with injuries they sustained during the Saturday morning attacks, just a stone’s throw from Kasiela shopping centre.

Residents are now calling on the government to move with speed and contain the situation.

Director of Health in Baringo County Thomas Chepchieng’ has lamented the rising cases of banditry attacks despite heavy presence of security personnel who have been deployed in the area.

Areas that have been affected as residents flee their homes include Kasiela, Sinoni, Lomoiwe, Tembererwe, Kapkechir, Kabel, and Tuiyotich.

The fate of students expected to sit national exams hangs in the balance as security situation continues to deteriorate in main exams centers.

“Some residents who feel threatened have started looking for alternative places to stay, especially those who have relatives in safer places,” says Marigat police boss David Too.
