'Atavists' ni viungo vilivyorudi kwa bahati mbaya kwenye viumbe ambavyo viungo husika vilishaondoka na kupotea, ila zile 'switch' za kiungo husika zinakuwa tu zimezimwa kwenye vinasaba vya kiumbe, na 'switch' hizo zinapowashwa tena kwa bahati mbaya, basi kiungo hicho hurudi.
Mfano nyoka mwenye miguu, nyangumi mwenye miguu, binadamu mwenye mkia, kuku mwenye meno, ni ishara ya udugu wa damu baina ya viumbe kama bnadamu,nyoka na nyani, hivyo mababu na mabibi wa nyoka na manyani ni hao hao wa binadamu.

Chicken teeth

The left beak belongs to a healthy chicken, while the one on the right bears the recessive talpid2 gene and tiny tooth-like projections.
In 2006, scientists researching the effects of a recessive talpid2 gene in chicks discovered small protrusions that revealed the genetic ability to grow teeth in birds. Though many evolutionary scientists cite this study as a momentous victory for the theory of evolution
