Job Title: INTERNATIONAL PROJECT MANAGER

Reporting to the International Head of Education, and also accountable to the Country Directors of the host countries, the International Project Manager will be expected to manage the 5 year UK Big Lottery Fund project on stopping Violence Against Girls in Schools in Kenya, Mozambique and Ghana, ensuring effective delivery of the project in line with the original proposal and donor requirements.

As the International Project Manager you will be responsible for the international management of this multi country project. You will work with country directors and relevant Education and Women’s’ Rights leads in Ghana, Kenya and Mozambique to ensure high priority is given to delivering on the project. You will lead on the design and consolidation of relevant capacity building programmes for ActionAid country programmes. You will also support strategic research in coordination with the University of London’s Institute of Education. You will provide technical support and facilitate links between the three countries, ensuring high quality monitoring and evaluation. You will facilitate international level policy and advocacy including developing guidelines for best-practice and model policies and taking insights from the project to share with governments, civil society and international institutions across Africa and beyond.

The desired candidate will have a minimum of 5 years experience in international development with a strong focus on education and gender work; demonstrated skills and experience in managing multi-country projects including team and financial management, M&E, donor reporting and programme planning; experience in cross country capacity building in civil society in Africa; skills in partnership development with government, civil society and other stakeholders, and doing strategic research and advocacy work.

A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline, proven strategic, analytical and research skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills in English for diverse audiences are required for this position. A strong commitment to human rights and socio-economic justice and a proven track record in exercising human rights is also desirable. This post will require extensive travel.

Background:

The UNV Programme receives a lot of correspondence from individuals and applicants interested to become UNV volunteers as well as from NGOs and other agencies, partners, the private sector and Government. These processes entail a lot of paper work and documentation.

There has been a significant increase in the number of recruitments for UNV volunteers in the recent period. This situation has demanded more time and effort on the part of the UNV staff members. The task of filing and managing the records is therefore not adequately attended to. It is in this respect that an Intern is required to assist the UNV office in carrying out the related tasks within a specified time frame.

Scope of work and Reporting:
The Intern will work under the supervision of the Programme Assistant and
her/his responsibilities would include the following:

-Keep (outgoing Tanzanians) UNVs correspondence box files in an orderly manner on the shelf
-Sort out outdated correspondence in the box files for disposal
-Update correspondence in the files and file relevant documents in respective box files
-Replace old files by opening new ones
