Ajali ya Meli Zanzibar: Meli kama chombo na mazingira ya ajali

Ami mbona hili rahisi tu, na naamini Wapemba kwa umoja wao wanaliweza. Ni kama daftari la ukazi vile...
Wa bara na visiwani waorodheshe ndugu zao waliopanda na hawajulikani walipo....basi tayari idadi inapatikana.
Simanzi haijapungua, nawapa pole tena na tena wafiwa na majeruhi. Mama zetu, baba zetu, watoto wetu. Watoto na kinamama na wasivyojua kukimbia sipati picha tafrani iliyokuwepo huko!

Awali habari zilipoanza kutoka kuhusu kuzama kwa meli ya mv Spice ilielezwa kuwa zaidi ya watu 2000 wanahofiwa kufa.

Habari zimebadilika mpaka vyombo vya habari vinatangaza watu 163 kufa na zaidi ya 500 kuokolewa.

Kwa wajuzi wa safari za meli na hali ilivyokuwa siku meli ilipoanza safari na kwamba meli yenyewe imezama tena katikati ya bahari zipo kila sababu kuamini kwamba maisha ya watu yamepuuzwa kwa faida za kisiasa.

Ukweli utabaki ni ule wa mwanzo kwamba watu 2000 wanahofiwa kufa. Binafsi nina sababu za kuamini kuwa zaidi ya 1000 watakuwa wamekufa iwapo watakaookolewa watajumlisha idadi ya 2000.
 
Hii meli ikilinganishwa na meli za kubeba ndege za kivita ni ndogo sana lakini tofauti na meli hizo  hii ilikuwa ni neema kubwa kwa wakulima wa Tanzania nzima.Siku ikifika kule Tanga huwa ni sherehe kwa wafanyabiashara wa bidhaa za aina zote.Mara nyingi wafanyabiashara hao huwa wameagiza mazao kutoka umbali hata Iringa na Arusha wachilia mbali Lushoto ili kuwahi soko.Mafuso pale bandarini yasiyo idadi hupanga foleni kupeleka bidhaa kuanzia Jumapili inapotia nanga mpaka Jumanne inapoondoka
Hivyo tofauti na meli za kivita hii meli ilikuwa inazalisha mamilioni ya fedha
Anayetilia shaka idadi ya abiria zaidi ya 2000 hajui maana ya meli na uwezo wake wa kubeba.
Jee umewahi kuona feri za pale Mtongwe na Likoni Mombasa zinaposhusha watu na magari?.Huwezi kuamini,utadhani wanatoka uwanja wa taifa Temeke.Basi hii meli mv spice kwa abiria ni zaidi.na abiria wenyewe wengi watoto

Hii meli haiwezi kubeba abiria 2,000. Mimi naifahamu vizuri sana. Tusikuze mambo. Tuna uchungu wa msiba mkubwa huu lakini haisaidii chochote kusema vitu vya uongo.
Watu 1,000 sawa,
1,500 kwa tabu sana.
Lakini 2k haiwezekani!!
 
Ngoja nitoe sura ya safari katika meli na hasa hii spice ili tuone iwapo upo uwezekano wa kuokoka au kuokolewa kwa abiria angalau robo tu.
Itakuwa ndefu kidogo na nitaitoa vipande pande kwani kuna pahala naitwa.Wakati ukisoma angalia picha halisi ya hiyo meli hapo chini.

Abiria hata siku zisizokuwa na msongamano hujaa sana kwenye vyumba viwili na uwanja wa juu karibu na kizimba cha nahodha mkuu.
Sehemu ya mbele iliyokusudiwa kwa mizigo kikawaida hujaa abiria wanaokalia mizigo na ambao hawana mpango wa kuinuka kwenda popete
Mara nyingi katika meli wenye uwezo wa kuinuka na kuruka huku na kule ni vijana wadogo wadogo.Akina mama na wazee hata chooni hukusudia kujizui mpaka wafike na hujitahidi wamalize haja zao kabla kuingia melini au kabla haijaondoka.
Mwanzoni mwa safari mazungumzo huwa ni mengi lakini kila safari inavyokolea sauti hupungua kwa baadhi yao kuanza kusinzia...........
 
Meli inapoingia mikondoni tayari watu wengi huwa wamelala baada ya uchofu wa safari iliyowaleta melini na yenye usumbufu mwingi.Kumbuka abiria huwa amebeba mizigo na wanawe na hapumui mpaka ajione amepata sehemu ya kukaa.
Hata hali ya hewa ikiwa ni nzuri meli inapopita mikondoni hupata mtikisiko ambao wanaouzoea ni mabaharia pekee.Kwa pale Nungwi melil hutikisika kiasi kwamba mwenye roho nyepesi hudhani imegonga mwamba.Hali hii ndiyo inayotibua nyoyo za akinamama na abiria kwa jumla na kuanza kutapikiana.Hali ya kutapikiana mtu alipo akiwa hajiwezi kuinuka inafanana sana na wodi ya kipindupindu.....hapana hii ni homa ya kawaida ya bahari.
Mtikisiko wa meli na sauti za kutapika ndizo zinazoamsha abiria wengi.
 
Eneo ambalo MV Spice ilipata ajali na kuzama hapo juzi ni mwanzo wa mkondo wa Nungwi ambapo panashabihiana na Ras Nungwi.Hii ndio maana meli za wavuvi na waliokuwa kwenye hoteli za kitalii waliweza kushuhudia hili tukio.Katikati ya mkondo wa Nungwi wenyewe huwa huwezi kuona Pemba wala Unguja kwa macho matupu.Hapo kutokana na kina kirefu cha maji,bahari huwa nyeusi sana na mara nyengine bluu iliyokoza kulingana na hali ya hewa.
Hivyo tuelewe kwamba meli ilizidi kupata matatizo mara ilipoanza kuingia mkondo wa Nungwi.Kipindi hiki abiria wa kawaida huwa hawawezi hata kuinuka kuelekea popote.
Kufuatana na uzoefu wa meli na maelezo ya waliokoka muda huu meli ilianza kujaa maji kwa mbele bila shaka msukumo wa mawimbi juuu.......chini...pwaaa! .Meli ilianza kunywa maji kwa mbele na kuongeza uzito.
Abiria walioanza kutaharuki kwa hofu ya kifo hasa vijana walianza kurudi nyuma bila mpangilio na kuifanya meli kukosa uwiyano wa uzito.
 
Maboya kwenye Mv Spice yapo kiasi chini ya viti katika vyumba.Eneo la mbele la mizigo ambalo hutumika kuweka abiria hakuna maboya.
Kwa vyovyote vile maboya hata yakiwepo wengi hawajui jinsi ya kuyavaa na kwa kawaida kiwewe cha kifo hakitoi mwanya wa kujifunza muda huo.Hapa nakusudia kusema meli ilipoanza kuzama abiria wengi waliokuwa eneo la mbele walimiminwa kwenye maji bila kizuizi na hawakuwa na cha kushika cha kuaminika kujizuia.
Upande wa vyumbani wanakokaa akinamama, na abiria waliowahi, maboya yalipotea bure kwani hakukuwa na wa kuyatumia kwani abiria wanaokaa humo wamejichokea wanachosubiri ni kufika tu.
Yapo maelezo kwamba manahodha waliamua kuwafungia waliokuwa vyumbani kuzuia wasitoke na kuyumbisha meli zaidi.Hata wasingefungiwa wengi wao hawana ushujaa wa kutumia maboya kujiokoa,hivyo ilikuwa ni mayowe tu na kushahadia,na hatimae kuzama.

As the nation enters the second day of mourning the MV Spice Islanders tragedy, one of the survivors, Kassim Abdalah said yesterday that most passengers used mattresses and wooden doors to keep afloat.

According to the survivor, they started the journey at Zanzibar Port around 10.00 pm on Friday heading to Pemba.

"But even before we started the journey, most of us (passengers) were not comfortable with the condition of the ship…the vessel was tilting, something that worried many passengers, including me," narrated Abdallah, a resident of Kisiwani Kojani.


He said a short distance from Nungwi Bay some passengers started sensing abnormal movements of the ship.

"It seemed as if the ship was sinking… fear and tension gripped most passengers on board," he explained, adding: "The situation worsened when we arrived at Nungwi Bay after one of the ship's engines stalled."

Fearing for their lives, some passengers, especially women, started crying, with others asking the ship's captain to assure them of their safety, after the engine ceased.


This forced the captain to make an announcement…urging passengers not to panic, saying the ship could still travel on one engine. "According to the captain we would arrive safely despite of the problem. Since we (passengers) are not experts, we believed him, and the journey continued," he said.


They proceeded with the safari, but when they were some five kilometres from Nungwi Bay, the second engine ceased, shocking everybody and triggering more panic and outcries amongst passengers, as sea water started entering the ship.


"The ship had started to sink, slowly! Every passenger prayed to God for some miracles to save our lives. There was nothing we could do except to pray," he explained.


"It reached a point when almost half of the ship was covered with water…it is at this point when many children and infants died, as adults, like me, struggled to save our lives," said Abdallah.


The ship's captain, assisted by five sailors, threw life buoys into the Ocean, and all of them jumped onto them and started helping other passengers out of the sinking ship onto the rescue facility.


"Unfortunately the rescue facility could not accommodate all passengers, because the carrier capacity of that facility was low compared to the number of people needing help," the survivor explained.


"Fortunately as we desperately sought ways to save ourselves, we realized that, there were mattresses and wooden doors on top of the ship…they belonged to businesspeople plying between Pemba and Unguja."


"So, one of us (passengers) threw the mattresses and the doors to the ocean which we used as rafters to rescue passengers. Honestly speaking, these mattresses and doors, saved lives of many more passengers," he added.


Abdallah said while the rescue continue, a group of 40 passengers, including him had clung to the ship, in anticipation of assistance from relevant authorities and anybody else who might happen.


"No rescue came and the whole ship sunk, taking with it 25 passengers who probably died. I and 14 other passengers used mattresses and doors which were floating on the surface to remain afloat. We held onto the mattresses and doors, for hours-from around 1.00 am until morning," he said.


While on the Ocean, waiting for help, he said: "We saw an airplane, afar. We raised our hands and water pipes-hoping it would spot us. Apparently noticing us, the plane circled above for a while…before flying away."


"Not long after a boat come to our rescue. Before helping us out of the water, people on the boat spent sometime, taking our photos," said Abdallah.


"After this the boat came close to where we were, picked us up and put all of us onto it…in short the mattresses and doors, saved my life and those of many other passengers, in the tragedy," he concluded.

Ukisikia maiti wamepatikana Kipumbwi unatamani uende ukaone iwapo na wa kwako yumo,ukisikia hivi na vile unazidi kuhemkwa.Unakonda na kwa baadhi ya watu kwa wapenzi wao huwa chanzo cha maradhi ya kihoro.

Ingewezekana hata dereva wa moja kati ya hizo Fuso 13 kuendesha hiyo MV Spice kwa kuwa hakuna usimamizi wowote. Lolote linalosemwa sasa linaweza kuwa kweli kwa vile wanaotakiwa kusimamia hawafanyi kazi zao, business as usual na ukweli hautakuja kujulikana.

Upande wa vyumbani wanakokaa akinamama, na abiria waliowahi, maboya yalipotea bure kwani hakukuwa na wa kuyatumia kwani abiria wanaokaa humo wamejichokea wanachosubiri ni kufika tu.
Yapo maelezo kwamba manahodha waliamua kuwafungia waliokuwa vyumbani kuzuia wasitoke na kuyumbisha meli zaidi.Hata wasingefungiwa wengi wao hawana ushujaa wa kutumia maboya kujiokoa,hivyo ilikuwa ni mayowe tu na kushahadia,na hatimae kuzama.

Kwa kuongezea Mkuu, meli aina ya Ro - Ro ferries ( au kwa kiswahili cha Dar meli aina ya 'Kishtobe' yaani inafungua milango magari kuingia na kutoka) kama hii ya MV Spice Islander I ikipigwa wimbi likayazowa magari yaliyopakiwa na mizigo kwenda upande mmoja ni hatari sana. Meli inakunywa maji ya mawimbi bila kuyacheua kwa kasi, kwa MV Spice Isalnder I vile ipo wazi mno tofauti na meli zingine za RO-RO ship/ferries ambazo zimefunikwa vizuri kuzuia kumeza maji tani nyingi kwa mkupuo mmoja. sio kila kitu lazima kiwekwe wazi .fatilia serekali nyingine duniani. mabomu mengi sana ya nyuklia yako chini ya ardhi kwenye makazi ya watu huko usa lakini serekali ya usa doesnt speak it out,kumbukeni habari kama hizi serekali ikikubali western media zita anza kupublish how weak the government ilivyo instead we need to show them that tume okoa wengi kuliko walio kufa to win reputaion of the government.
