AFRICAN UNION SUPPORTS COVID ORGANICS MEDICINE FROM MADAGASCAR

Addis Ababa- The Bureau of the African Union Heads of States held a tele-conference meeting to discuss in detail the efficacy of the Covid Organics Medicine(CVO) as developed by the Republic of Madagascar in treating COVID-19 patients.

Madagascan President, His Excellency Mr. Andry Rajoelina presented the product to the


Heads of States.

Those present were:


1. President Cyril Ramaphosa (African Union Chairperson and South Africa).

2. President Abdul Fatah El Sisi(Egypt).

3. President Felix Tshisekedi(DRC).

And Heads of Regional Economic Commissions:

4. President Uhuru Kenyatta (Kenya).

5. President Paul Kagame (Rwanda).

6. President Ali Bongo (Gabon).

7. President Mahamadou Issoufou(Niger).

8. President Idris Derby (Chad).

9. President Boubacar Keita (Mali).

10. President Andry Rajoelina (Madagascar).

The Burea of Heads of State of the African Union has also formed COVID-19 Ministerial response Coordinating Committees on Health, Transport, Finance and Agriculture to respond to the various factors surrounding the Coronavirus pandemic.

The AU has also formulated a continental strategy to better prepare and respond to any new cases of the virus on the continent.

It also shares knowledge and information about experimental drugs, vaccines and clinical trials currently being undertaken for the control of the coronavirus disease.

Africa CDC also established the Africa Task Force for Novel Coronavirus (AFCOR) to coordinate preparedness and response across the continent.

The Bureau of Heada of State has also formed the Africa Union COVID-19 Fund.

This is being done under the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).

The Fund is a public-private partnership. The partnership aims to raise an initial US$ 150 million for immediate needs to prevent transmission and up to US$ 400 million to support sustainable medical response to the COVID-19 pandemic by pooling the resources required for the procurement of medical supplies and commodities; supporting the deployment of rapid responders across the continent as well as providing socio-economic support to the most vulnerable populations in Africa.
