ACT WAZALENDO CONDEMNS ANTI-AFRICAN RACISM AND XENOPHOBIA AGAINST COVID-19 FIGHTING:
As Coronavirus Pandemic sparks worldwide Anti-African Racism, Xenophobia rises in China and the incidents of hostility and discrimination reported to be happening, among others including;
▪ Staff at a barber shop in Beijing they had been told not to serve foreign friends;
▪ Foreign Journalist has been harassed and they are not free to report professionally;
▪ Foreigners are not getting equal health services;
▪ Some Chinese businesses have denied service to foreigner/expatriates;
▪ African nationals ejected from their hotels in the middle of the night only because they are Africans;
▪ Selective testing of African students while their non African colleagues are left out;
▪ Persistent harassment and humiliation of African nationals by subjecting them to unwarranted medical examinations after testing negative for the COVID-19, and forced into quarantine, irrespective of their negative status;
▪ Threats of revocation of visas, arrest, detention and deportation of African legal migrants for no cogent reason which infringes on their human rights and
▪ Foreigners are being considered as a virus. Etc
ACT-Wazalendo hereby calls upon the Chinese Government to take urgent and necessary steps to safeguard the human rights of all and to stop all discrimination and inhumane treatments meted out to Africans and other foreigners legally lived in China.
ACT-Wazalendo calls upon the Government of Tanzania to convene the meeting with China High Commission to discuss this matter and African Union (AU) leaders to take necessary action immediately regarding the matters as concerns.
It’s our hope that, The United Nations and International Community to intervene and ensure that the protection of The United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other International treats are all observed and that the safety and security of all Africans/Foreigners across the globe and in particular-China.
ACT-Wazalendo respects the excellent cooperation and mutual friendship between China, Tanzania and other African countries. And we know that, the fight against COVID-19 has not yet finished and requires inclusive efforts, unity of all countries without regarding races in to defeat this pandemic.
