Pablo Escobar (December 1, 1949 – December 2, 1993) was a Colombian drug lord, drug trafficker, and narco-terrorist. His cartel supplied an estimated 80% of the cocaine smuggled into the United States at the height of his career, turning over US $21.9 billion a year in personal income. He was often called "The King of Cocaine" and was the wealthiest criminal in history, with an estimated known net worth of US $30 billion by the early 1990s (equivalent to about $55 billion as of 2016), making him one of the richest men in the world at his prime.
Corruption and intimidation characterized Escobar's dealings with the Colombian system. He worked to implement an effective, inescapable policy for dealing with law enforcement and the government, referred to as "plata o plomo" (literally "silver or lead", colloquially "[accept] money or [face] bullets"). Its execution resulted in the deaths of hundreds of individuals, including civilians, policemen, and state officials. At the same time, Escobar bribed countless government officials, judges, and other politicians.
In 1982, Escobar was elected as an alternate member of the Chamber of Representatives of Colombia as part of the Colombian Liberal Party. Through this, he was responsible for the construction of many hospitals, schools, and churches in western Colombia, which gained him popularity inside the local Roman Catholic Church as well as with the locals of the towns that he frequented. However, Colombia became the murder capital of the world, and Escobar was vilified by the Colombian and American governments. In 1993, Escobar was shot and killed in his hometown by Colombian National Police, 24 hours after his 44th birthday

Kama kweli tuna dhamira ya dhati ya kupambana na hili swala ni vyema tukajipanga kama nchi kwa kushirikisha mifumo yote ya kiutawala mpaka kwa jamii inayotuzunguka. Kuanzia Usalama wa taifa, Mahakama, Polisi, na vyombo vingine vyote vya dola kwa pamoja vishirikiane katika suala hili. Hatua zilizo chukuliwa na Mkuu mkoa wa Dar es Salaam ni mwanzo mzuri, maana waswahili husema "Heri kitu, kuliko kukosa kitu".
Lakini kama vita hii ataachiwa yeye peke yake kama mkuu wa mkoa basi ndio tutaishia kuwakamata kina Wema, Chidibenzi, Ray C na Vanessa mdee, Huku tukiwaacha akina Pablo Escobar wakiendelea kupeta na kuumiza vijana ambao ndio nguvu kazi ya Taifa.
