Celebrating women who are pioneers in their fields despite many odds and yet have consis sotently strived for perfection, Radio Mirchi 983, in collaboration with Directorate of Mission for Protection and Empowerment of Women Social Welfare Department felicitated the women achievers under Mirchi Power 21.
Twenty one powerful women of the year 2021 were gathered at Sher-I- Kashmir Convention Center on November 29, 2021 from across Jammu and Kashmir to tell their of struggles and overcoming their hurdles and fears while carving a niche for themselves.
At the ceremony, prominent women from different walks of life, presented these awards to the achievers of 2021.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Shabnam Kamili, Director- Directorate of Mission for Protection and Empowerment of Women Social Welfare Department, said, “when women themselves stop making life difficult for other women, that is when we will achieve some amount of empowerment.’’ She through her words, pointed out the flaws of our collective society in limiting women. She added, “We see a lot of cases, its not only a man, a mother in law, the sister, but your own allies …we are living for the larger zamaana, larger society. 49% of kashmiri women justify husbands violence. Its an evil – we have to combat it.”
Among many awardees , present were Irfana Zargar, padwoman of Kashmir, Insha Bashir first woman wheelchair bound basket ball player, Ufra Mir, mental health expert, Ms Salima, specially abled artisan who worked hard and sustained her family during covid. Tasia Tariq, Kashmiri food blogger, Fiza Nazir, Athelete. Tabasum Ara, for vaccinating more than 15000 people. Zehr u Nissa, for her health reporting during the pandemic.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, RJ Vijdan, from Mirchi 98.3 FM said, Mirchi since its beginning in Kashmir has been doing progressive, women centric content and highlighting women issues, which sets our programming and content apart, Mirch Power 21 is a platform that will felicitate and acknowledge woman achievers of J-K.
