    Zanzibar underlines supremacy in athletics

    Athletes from Zanzibar Urban West were the most impressive in the just ended national championships staged at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam last weekend.

    The Isles athletics team hauled 23 medals, comprising 13 gold, six silvers and four bronzes to top the medals final standings.

    The women athletes won the overall award as men finished second in the track and field events.

    The women athletes scooped six gold, two silver and bronze medals as men had seven gold, six silver and three bronze medals.

    The Zanzibar athletes were superb in short distance races, shot put, triple jump and javelin.

    It was an all Zanzibar affair in the 100 metres dash as Yassin Muhidin and Makame Ally dominated the proceedings to exchange the first and runner up positions, respectively.

    The duo were separated by just ten seconds with Muhidin huffing to the finishing line first on 10:60 seconds.

    Mariam Hassan and Hashiria Hashim also dominated the 100 metres sprints while Muhamed Ibrahim, Ally Seif and Hamisa and Tama Jaha excelled in shot puts.

    Muhidin was also impressive in triple jump.
    Zanzibar athletic team were followed closely by Arusha Region and the host region Dar es Salaam, came third in the final standings.

    Kamanda, naona hujasoma vizuri bandiko hili, Zenj (Zanzibar) ni wazuri sana katika riadha na hasa katika mbio fupi na michezo mingine. Sio wataalamu wa mbio ndefu kama Kenya ama Arusha ama Singida au Manyara kwa upande wa Tanzania Bara.

    Wazenj wameweza kuutumia vema uwanja wao wa Amani katika kujiimarisha katika track and field.. Na wana rekodi ya muda mrefu ya kuwasumbua watz bara katika hili.

    Ikubukwe kuwa Tz bara kwa muda mrefu wamekuwa hawana viwanja venye hadhi ya kimataifa the same to Kenya... hadi miaka ya hivi karibuni, ingawa wakenya wapo mbele kwa Watz Bara.

    Hongera sana kwa Wazenj kwa kuweza kutamba katika mashindano haya ya Taifa. Zile kejeli za Mbatata za urojo itabidi wajiulize mara mbilimbili..:D

    Unanikumbusha miaka hiyo tulikuwa na wanaridha kina dada Ufiliya sijuwi alimalizikia nchi gani kama kuna mtu ana data zake aweke atakuwa bibi kwa sasa

    Kibunango ni wazuri sana tu katika riadha hasa hao ndugu zetu wa kike. Hawakuanza leo. watafute akina Amina Kapenta wakusilmulie enzi zao. Saada Yussuf, na vitoto vile vya enzi zile za miaka ya sabini na thamanini. Wee acha tu hao wanakimbia kweli!!!

    Kenya haina wakimbiaji wa mbio fupi. Hata hao wazanzibar sprinters wako bora kuliko wakenya.

    Kwa Tanzania, maeneo yanayotoa sprinters ni Zanzibar, Iringa na Mbeya. Singida, Arusha ni mbio ndefu.
